So how many of you are able to make a living doing this?

Maybe. My woman's in the arts too, so we know what's up and what to expect. Maybe one day I'll get sick of month-to-month life but the only thing I think I'd miss is having kids, and if I end up doing some teaching and stuff to get a steady income that can definitely happen.

So how many of you are able to make a living doing this?

A living doing music, yes. A living most people would be satisfied with, no. Tiny apartment, no car, nothing fancy - but I have a day "music" gig and play the music I want to play in side gigs that bring in a little cash. I've never lusted after the heights of comfortable suburban...

Scott Henderson Sounds off on Internet/Music Business

Also, the poster was correct who said that downloading music is not stealing, it's copyright infringement. And yes, it does matter and it's not just "call it what you want, it's still stealing" - because it's not theft.

Scott Henderson Sounds off on Internet/Music Business

As far as I know any venue that has musicians who play other people's tunes have to pay a flat yearly fee to ASCAP, I think.

Scott Henderson Sounds off on Internet/Music Business

As someone who's studying/playing a music that's essentially commercially unviable (jazz), I have no problem with taking other gigs to bring in cash. I just got one, in fact, a really prestigious one that'll land me tons of exposure and opportunities. Trumpet playing at Medieval Times. :D In...

    is this band for real?

These guys all seem to have their musical/instrument shit together. Just because they don't play what you like doesn't mean they have no talent. 80s glam guys made music that as as "real" as these guys. Doesn't mean the music was necessarily bad, but they played music in a style that was...

    is this band for real?

This is literally the exact same thing as 80s hair metal. Dumb choreographed moves, doing shit to appeal to chicks, etc. If this was some guy waving his superstrat like a cock while wailing away shitty pentatonic licks it would be the exact opposite response here. All the metal guys on this...

    320 BPM? WTF?

That's pretty technically impressive, I guess... But it reminded me of this tune I was just listening to. Here's actually making music at ~350bpm...on the fly  h6x-38fQOHU

Grant Green is awesome. Check out his album Idle Moments. Wes Montgomery! Before he started playing Beatles stuff and easy listening. Full House with the Wynton Kelly Trio, aka the Miles Davis rhythm section  John McLaughlin is always great if you're into fusion-y stuff. I'm not...

That's because the Raiders put JaMarcus "lol, it's JaMarcus Russell" Russell in the game one score down. I can only imagine Big Ben's jowls quivering with sadness after seeing #2 step on the field, knowing that his playoff dreams were over.

    2009 NFL Weekly Picks Thread

I'm sure the Colts players were not happy about being pulled. No real competitor wants to watch the game from the bench no matter what "strategy" is involved. I don't think coming cold off the bench to play a playoff game in the NFL-style 1-game-means-all format is a good idea. Even if you're...
