Maybe. My woman's in the arts too, so we know what's up and what to expect. Maybe one day I'll get sick of month-to-month life but the only thing I think I'd miss is having kids, and if I end up doing some teaching and stuff to get a steady income that can definitely happen.
A living doing music, yes.
A living most people would be satisfied with, no. Tiny apartment, no car, nothing fancy - but I have a day "music" gig and play the music I want to play in side gigs that bring in a little cash. I've never lusted after the heights of comfortable suburban...
Also, the poster was correct who said that downloading music is not stealing, it's copyright infringement. And yes, it does matter and it's not just "call it what you want, it's still stealing" - because it's not theft.
As someone who's studying/playing a music that's essentially commercially unviable (jazz), I have no problem with taking other gigs to bring in cash. I just got one, in fact, a really prestigious one that'll land me tons of exposure and opportunities.

All the metal guys on this...
That's pretty technically impressive, I guess...
But it reminded me of this tune I was just listening to. Here's actually making music at ~350bpm...on the fly

Grant Green is awesome. Check out his album Idle Moments.
Wes Montgomery! Before he started playing Beatles stuff and easy listening. Full House with the Wynton Kelly Trio, aka the Miles Davis rhythm section
John McLaughlin is always great if you're into fusion-y stuff. I'm not...
That's because the Raiders put JaMarcus "lol, it's JaMarcus Russell" Russell in the game one score down.
I can only imagine Big Ben's jowls quivering with sadness after seeing #2 step on the field, knowing that his playoff dreams were over.
I'm sure the Colts players were not happy about being pulled. No real competitor wants to watch the game from the bench no matter what "strategy" is involved.
I don't think coming cold off the bench to play a playoff game in the NFL-style 1-game-means-all format is a good idea. Even if you're...
