Finally Finished the Sims Build

Some of you may recall the saga I had getting a guitar painted by Pat sims - This thread is NOT about re-hashing that sh*t. But at the time, I was frustrated enough that I had lost interest in finishing assembly. Well, I finally got around to it and I’m pretty darned pleased. The Body and Neck came from Butala and the build quality is absolutely top notch. Everything fit together perfectly - down to the height of the strings on the Nut Shelf. Thing plays beautifully everywhere on the neck with no fret ting. Plays like the frets have already been leveled. Body is Randy’s ‘San Dimas’ shape 1-Piece ‘Clear Grade’ Alder and the neck is also a San Dimas in Birdseye with 6100 SS Frets. Pickup is a Pariah Pasadena White (the lowest output one). She does have a FAT Brass block. I love how LOW the neck fits in the neck pocket and how deep the bridge plate sits in the recessed route.

FWIW - this was ‘supposed’ to be the VH-II Stripe Pattern with the VH-I colors / White with Black stripes - but I didn’t want to go through with having Pat sand it all down to start over after waiting 11 months…. Oh well, this is what I got.

And I am now SO happy that I snapped up this Charvel Art Series EVH Case many years ago when it popped up on eBay - I’ve never seen another one (without the guitar) since.

I’m about halfway into my 10-14 week wait from Butala right now. Basically the same as yours, but Kramer beak neck and Pacer body. I’m glad to hear it’s great stuff!

Looks Great PDC... I love the concept theme...basically what Frankie would have looked like without the strat routs. It's even better that it plays as good as it looks, you can't complain about that....

FWIW I think your painter did a nice job on it regardless if it was a bit different than you wished. It's a unique version of Frankie and originality is worth some KUDOS......

Looks great, so awesome that it plays great. I like that body style. Butala did a good job on my Star body and my experience with Pat was similar except he didn't fuck up my order.

I think it looks awesome! I think your original idea would have been even cooler, but this is still a gorgeous guitar.

Happy to hear good things about Butala. I put in an order for a neck and body a month ago but I'm a little nervous because there's so little said about his work online.

Cannot say enough good things about the quality of Randy’s work. Parts are top, top notch. And I love the Pasadena! I’d never played a Pariah before. It is bright - but not in a harsh way. Lots of clarity and articulation.
