Speaker Suggestions

I have a marshall 1960BHW and i'm not a fan at all of the G12H30 speakers that are in it. Thinking of Switching to 2 V30's & 2 of the EVH Greenbacks. or Possibly 4 of the EVH Green backs. or Possibly 4 of the V30. What would you recommend? The G12H30 are too fizzy on the high end, they just have this Character on the High End i don't like.
 
If you don’t like the bite of the H30s I’d go with 4 GBs rather than the V30 mix. I know that combo is popular but IMO the V30s just drown the others out. G12H30s I love for loud/live cabs but they can be bright and stiff at lower volumes. My G12M GB 16ohm cab is like half the volume of my 8ohm H30 cabs and is usually my go-to when playing at home
 
I like the G12H30 but if you’re not a fan of it I think either the EVH or standard Greenback will do the trick. I’ve got Greenbacks in a 2x12 and I’ve had the EVH speaker in a past and they both sound great for gained up rock . FWIW I never mixed the EVH with a V30 but I did mix it with a G12H30 in a 2x12 and the EVH got drown out . Others have done it with positve results though

I like V30's on the bottom from what i have heard of a friends friedman cab. i love the EVH Cabs too. i'm just trying to Get some punch & clarity i feel i don't have with the G12H30.

5153 50watt & a 100 watt soldano avenger.
 
For those, definitely a Marshall friendly speaker from my experience. V30/GB as mentioned; H30s I agree are too spiky until turned way up. Personally not a fan of all v30s with those amps; unless you score an 80s Marshall vintage cab. 65s/75s would work as well. All GBs of course; 20w EVH or 25w Ms
 
I’d recommend 20w greenbacks (which the EVH is supposed to be), Alnico Golds, Redbacks and V30’s and see which combination of them works best for you. Gold’s and V30’s is a killer combo IME. Gold’s and RB’s somehow are very underrated and the only non-vintage speakers that have had a place for me

The Truth is, i went through a Divorce back in 2009-2010 & had to sell my boogie rig i had back then & this cab was the only one i could afford after all that. i even had to sell my Marshalls i had. i had 2 1980 JMP's, an original 1987 2550 Jubilee, 2 Mesa Racktifiers, a Block letter 5150, and a 5150II, Mesa Boogie Straight with Slant Baffle OS Cab that i had bought brand new. The only thing i didn't sell was my Les Pauls. All other guitars were sold as well & at the time i had 15 Gibsons.
 
My Other Idea was 2 V30's & 2 EVM12L....Which i have heard before & they sound great together.
 
I would go for four EVH's myself.

I don't join in with the craze of mixing speakers. To me, I always like one better than the other, so I feel like I'm just watering it down with the other pair.

JMO.
 
I've been interested in creamback lately.
There is a lot of different Celestion speakers I wish I had around.

The 75H creambacks are pretty cool. Higher powered (and louder) greenback tone but not as forgiving, or fuzzy—and punchier.

Just put 4 into a 1960b cab and I like it. It’s a better live/loud cab tho

I was turned on to Weber speakers recently and have been liking the ones I got. The Grey Wolf is a great alternative to a V30. It's like a cross between a V30, G12H30 & CL80 taking the best parts of each. Plus you can customize the power, dust cap size and amount of dope to fit your needs better.
Their Silver Wolf is really nice too. I bought a pair of them a month or two ago. It's more low-mid focused where the Grey Wolf is upper-mid focused. The Grey Wolf and Silver Wolf make a really great pairing to produce a really full sound.
 
I have some of the EVH speakers and like them alot. You can't go wrong with those or some greenbacks.

I agree it depends much on exactly what the cab is and how it's going to mostly be used.
 
FWIW, the M magnet variatons of all the speakers I've tried (Creamback M's vs H's and H Annis vs Greenback RI's) have all sounded fatter in the lows and low mids than the H variations.

H's are louder and brighter. Maybe with a "tighter" (meaning, honestly, less) low-end. Maybe less low mids leaving the sub-lows a bit more apparent. But I've tried recording with them, but the peakiest/bassiest palm-mutes have always come from the M variatons.

Interesting sting you say this because when I listen to clips onlin and from playing in my cabs, the H-75 sounds bigger than my M-65s, single notes are fatter to me and they blend well with a redback. I do that in a 212 and thinking of doing this with a 412.
On thr Celestion site they talk about the H-75 adding punch and girth to the M-65, especially with single notes.

Yeah you seem from previous posts to be very by the Book & don't deviate from what you like from back in the day.
 
As stated greenbacks will be warmer and looser- but to me they aren't punchy. Maybe a creamback might be a better choice to tighten things up a bit but still get that warmer greenback vibe.

Side note, I can't stand the G12H30. Just too stiff and harsh to my ears.
