I've been wanting a 7 string for years but never made it happen. Well today I made it happen. I didn't have a lot of cash to blow, so I got myself a new Jackson Dinky JS22-7 DKA HT.
This is the most inexpensive guitar I've ever bought, but the reviews and discussion about these are pretty positive, given the low price.
I just got it out of the box and tuned it up and pkayed it for 10 minutes or so. Strings need to be stretched and the intonation is pretty close but could use a little dialing in, the neck is pretty straight with around .08 relief.
No sharp fret ends and the fit and finish seem pretty great for what it is. The neck and fretboard are very comfy, and the frets are smooth. Once I pull the strings off and give it some love this weekend I'll be polishing the frets like jewelry and giving the fretboard a little oil.
For $199 I can't see a single thing to complain about. Of course the pickups aren't great but they don't suck either.
I think I'm gonna enjoy this fun little black beast.
I have a TC Sentry noise gate on the way, so I can properly Djent like a Djentleman.

Congrats on the nice guitar but you might want to wipe the hardware down really well. There must be a heavy grime or grease caked on it because I can't see the gold. Maybe it's just the picture.

That’s sweet man. I ended up moving most of my pedals, but using a Sonic Stomp Pro in the effects loop was my magic djent sauce. Them adding a knob for the mids was a game changer for the circuit

Nice. Do you use a nose gate to clamp your signal for tight stocatto Djent?
Right no I'm just using the gate block in my MX5. I've been researching djent tones. And it seems that Misha uses 2 or 3 gates at different points of his signal chain.
I really want that super tight stocatto Djent thing that hear all over Periphery songs.

When I was at my most djenty I was using a decimator pro rack G, so it had the input channel and one for the loop.

I find now with my kemper I’ll put a gate first and then last before the “amp” if I’m using boosts and eqs and what not.

But lately l’ve just been rocking some limp wristed AC/DC riffs on a 7 string lol

I am quickly realizing after never owning or playing a 7 string before. I really suck with a 7 string. This is gonna take some getting used to and some research and learning.
:p

The Sentry pedal has a send and return. I'm not sure what to do with them. I guess I'll first try running my guitar into the input and then direct to my MX5. I have a lot to learn with this stuff.

Congrats .8 string is my fav . Who knows you might try that too
I would love am 8 string. But first I gotta figure out how to reasonably manage 7 string. Which so far is making me feel like an idiot.
:p
The guitar came with 9-52 strings, and the low B string seems really floppy. I picked up a set of 10-58's which I'm gonna put on it tomorrow hoping for less floppiness (it's a 26.5" scale guitar ftr). I admit I'm a total noob when it comes to anything beyond my normal 6 string 9-42 guitars.

You will get use to it . It’s really only 4 extra low notes remember. Fear factory has great low B songs and tones

I bought a Sentry based on the Fluff / Ben Eller gate shootout. It has been pretty great! Replaced an ISP Decimator G-String.

The ISP, and a few Boss NS-2's, have been the only pedal based gates I have owned so take my opinion with that in mind. The others were in floorboard multi effect based units. I don't do djent stuff, but the Sentry is really good.

You want to look at "noise gate 4 cable method".
I've looked into it a bit. I'm not 100% sure I can do that with my Headrush MX5, it has an effects loop. I run my MX5 into a mixer and out to studio monitors. That's my rig. I don't own an actual amp with an effects loop.
The only amp I have is an old Peavey Vypyr 15, which I actually love as a little home practice amp.

Wait a minute?! How are you a Djent Scientist if this is your first ERG? :ROFLMAO:
Either way, welcome to the new world!
