Dimarzio 50th Anniversary

Not sure how many here play Dimarzios, but they've been doing a few things for their 50th anniversary.

There was a Super Distortion with some special packing they announced:

I saw that and was thinking "that's it?", then just received this email for a new set, PAF 57:

Little shot there at the end 😆. Might be interested in how they compare to '57 Classics or other branded "'57" pickups. Wonder if they've got anything else planned for the year. I don't remember if they've ever done Alnico 2 magnet humbuckers?

Someone on the Seymour Duncan forum said "Sounds like the only niche these are filling is double cream PAF. So DMz is trying to take down lawsuits by decreasing the need for other winder's PAFs in double cream; now you can get them from DMz"

Hmm.

Someone on the DiMarzio forum had this to say: "I noticed there isn’t a cream option, but the relic white looks darn close. I’m curious about that."

Looks to me like it's the same color. I wonder why they're they're called their creme bobbins relic white now. DiMarzio had a four year legal battle to defend their creme bobbin trademark that ended in 2021. They won that lawsuit. Maybe they don't want an expensive legal battle with Gibson...

Here's a thread from the DiMarzio Forum on that topic:

I love it, actually laughed a little when I got the email newsletter from Dimarzio. Gibson announces $999 59 PAF pickups and Dimarzio comes right behind it with 57 PAFs. Then throws in this:
"DiMarzio doesn’t answer to a board of directors. We answer to a higher power: musicians"

At least Dimarzio has reasonable prices. I’ve had the 36th Anni’s before and they were quite good. If I had a guitar to put it in I would give the 57 a go.
