Basically the title, I've been rolling bridge pickups in my PRS singlecut and threw in the 498T that was just lying around. It is actually a pretty good match for the guitar as the PRS has a 53mm string spacing in the bridge position and the 498T is at around 52mm.
Soundcloud links to the 498T & #7. Sorry for the crap playing, I need to go and practice more obviously. IMO the 498T sounds pretty close to the stock #7 which is only around 8.1k in DCR but is pretty hot feeling for a PAF on its own right. The 498T rated at 14k would be the overwound version of that, you can hear it has less overtones and a more low mid / bass push to the sound.
The 498T gets a lot of crap and I can totally see why that would be, its too hot and muffled sounding for a PAF type pickup but not nearly as hot and tight as a true high output humbucker. Its just kinda awkwardly somewhere in between the categories, and it can sound a bit piercing & bloated at the same time.. but if you just take it for what it is, its a pretty good bridge humbucker. It pairs very well with a PAF style neck, the middle position has this really intense and bright quacky thing.
But this shows how similarly designed pickups can sound and feel extremely close, and maybe they don't make as big of a difference once settled in a certain style. I've once had the Polymath by BKP and took it out pretty fast as it was too dark for my singlecut, but yeah most PAF types seem to work great in my guitar. In the end I managed to put the stock pickups back in because the 498T was out of phase with the neck pickup and I couldn't bother to open it up and turn the magnet.
The signal chain is my guitar -> Friedman IR-X -> Audient ID4 -> Reaper for those who are interested. Tone Factor Greenback IRs on the Friedman, by far the best IR I've tried.
I've been interested in the Suhr Thornbuckers as of late, the #7 sounds great but they come with two conductor wires so you can't coil split them, I've heard great things for the Thornbuckers and was considering getting the and with the 6 way toggle switch for versatility. Its kinda weird having a PRS with only a 3way toggle but thats what these second run singlecuts are about I guess. Paul's version of a Les Paul.
