As
@shar-vell Dan I own a Line6 G50 and used to use it when I was gigging/rehearsing with no issues at all. Very reliable and like the fact the transmitter runs on batteries.
But as I am a lazy ass, when I quit gigging I never used it at home as you got to set it up: run a cable from the receiver unit to the amp, plug the receiver with a power supply. The transmitter needs to be hooked up to your strap someway, and swapping guitars can become a pain as I use different straps depending on the guitar. So, to make a long story short, it's not plug and play for someone like me who now only rocks at home
Honestly, when I saw those new wireless system from Boss, I thought they were just another gimmick... and I was wrong!
Here comes the Boss WL-20. Charge it. Make the "Auto Wireless Connection" by inserting the transmitter into the jack of the receiver. A few seconds later it's ready to rock. Put the receiver into the input of the amp, the transmitter into your favorite guitar and boom! No cables! Rock 'til the battery of the unit is dead. I do easily around 7 to 8 hours of battery life.
And I can confirm that the sound coming from the amp is loud and clear just like a regular cable. No latency at all.
A quick test I did was to walk around my house... Around 40 feet (12,2 meters) long and no drops or lost of signal. Boss specs says 50 feet.
If ever you are looking to have one less cable in your room, this affordable system from Boss is pretty cool and super easy to use!
The transmitter grips pretty tight into a guitar input. With my Les Paul, I tried it standing up, sitting the classic way and also with the guitar on my right lap. No issues or concerns. For sure, you have that piece pointing out depending on the location of the guitar input. It's not as stealthy as my Line6 G50 attached to my strap with a small cable reaching the guitar input.
Works fine with a Stratocaster input. Looks weird on a guitar with a front mounted input (such as a Gibson V). It was OK with a Jackson KV with the input in the inside of the lower fin.
Some cons: It's a bit bulky and depending on the way you adjust your guitar height, I bet it could interfere with your hips/laps...
Also noticed that, let's say you want to install the receiver in front of your pedal chain, some pedal inputs do not hold the plug enough to make it work, like the receiver keeps popping out (Tc MojoMojo for example). However, I tried it in 6 different amp inputs with no issue.
Sadly, a few months back I broke accidently my receiver on the WL-20, I had been rocking it exclusively for close to 6 years (since I got it). I loved it so much I bought another one and also a WL-50 as wanted to have something I could put on a pedal board and forget it there.
I don't want to sound like an ad but I really little wireless system! One less cable to worry about in my music room. I now only use a cable when I forgot to charge it!
Just noticed I wrote a book above.
