Gibson Studio is gone but hello Gibson SG!

I liked my Gibson Studio but did not like the pickups and had to basically send my guitar to Cedar-Sinai hospital and do a triple bypass to change the quick connect pickups, so I decided F that. I needed an SG and missed having one.

As a sidenote, I planned on getting a V or Explorer but did not like the ones I played. They sounded like a kid's toy from China. Did not gel with those at all. So the SG was a great warm blanket so to speak.

I’m really amazed how huge my SG sounds especially being under 7lbs. I swapped out the pickups for a Wolftone Timbre Wolf in the bridge and a Marshall head in the neck. I didn’t really jive with the stock ‘61 pickups

I don't even know what pickups are in this but sound great! Maybe eventually I'll throw something else in but who knows?

I picked up a 2010 Standard just like yours a couple months ago. Has the 50’s neck which is big and tall frets, stock pickups. Quite a bit different than my SG Custom neck. It is a fretless wonder. Way different feel.

Congrats.
Love my SG. Motor City Detroiter in the bridge gave it some beef. One of my fav guitars ever.
I have a 2nd Degree Black Belt and would be cool to throw it in there but it is uncovered and would look weird. Plus these sound pretty good.

Looks like I'll need another SG down the road...lol

sold my 2024 '61 SG standard a few months ago:

They cost nearly the same. Side to side comparison, I prefer the Epi Inspired by '63 Gibson Les Paul Custom, SG's aren't my main guitars either. For a two humbucker hardtail, I still prefer my Ibanez PS10 over anything else.

edit: I'll add the fit and finish, build quality, setup, are great "out of the box" for both the Gibson and Epi. QC worked well on both of these.

I wanted PS10 or the other model (PS20?) so bad a few years ago because I read about them sounding like a Les Paul and like you, I'm a KISS fan. They had a used one and when I checked they had sold it already.

IIRC, Paul used his favorite real '58 Gibson Les Paul's as the basis for the original '70s PS. They really feel and play close to a Les Paul without the weight.

Been on the SG train lately too. Just grabbed these two (and the blue one is new new). Both have Wagner Godwoods in them now. I didn’t love the stock pickups in either for my tastes. They hang out with my '94 Standard and my Jaydee Old Boy.
