Who invented the palm mute?

Sir Francis Palmute invented the Palm Mute in 1763.

[Edit] Just read what other people wrote - they beat me to it lol

Your great, great grandma. That woman gave lots of strokes, until she had one herself. God rest her soul (and soles, as she also invented the "foot mute").

Middle Eastern oud players palmuted for 2000 years now . I went deep in playing like them on guitar for a different flavor . They would om their open low nights like we do now

i think there were a few Mayan bands in the Archaic period that were doing it

For the electric guitar players, it would have to be Les Paul. Listen to his work with his wife, Mary Ford. He's palm muting when sweeping chords back and forth back then. My dad was super into that early guitar stuff when I was a kid. And his chugs were das brutalz when he was briefly in his deathcore band Lester and the Molesters.
