Metallica boost the mids now and sound really really gay, so it just depends. Judas priest, maiden and accept, the boosted mids sound great with that type of metal. Pantera, metallica, not so much!

Mine is a special so made in meheco. I really like these pups, they are pretty high output and the high end can be a little scratchy but overall sound great. More like a duncan than dimarzio. Kinda sounds like a duncan custom custom.

I have done this same thing many times. If the lock nut width is suppose to be 43 mm, put on a 42 mm. Cant stand the high or low e to be too close to the edge of the fretboard.
