So looking past all the bitchjng about amps no one here has actually played and online personas that no one is putting themselves out there to try and do better…
Say this Jose and the 1959 Modified are roughly the same price. Which one is likely to be better quality in terms of components and...
Not too side track too much, but so far in this group I've tried a Triple Rec, IIB+, IIC+, JCM2000 and this SLO30 paired up against the other guitarists's 2205 w/ T75 cab. No ego, I just want to find the best space for both of us to operate in. The group's consensus is that the best one by far...
Thanks man. I've played tons of high gain amps in my bands and when the rubber hits the road, it's always very different than what we hear at home.
I had a SLO100 a few years ago that was a real ball breaker but still, I think a Marshall would have cut much clearer. The 30 has similar tone...
Yeah, it's just an iPhone in the room. The 30 had a hard time keeping up with the Marshall, which seems to be common. I've only had one Mesa that can hold its own against a Marshall in a 2 guitar band, my IIB KRG.
Personally I'd call Mesas low middy, SLOs mid middy, and Marshalls upper middy. At any rate, here's a rehearsal clip of my new cover band where I'm playing a SLO 30 and the other guitarist is playing a JCM800 2205. See what you think about the difference.
The C+ smoothness is one of the things that makes it one of the best lead amps ever, and one of the things that (for rhythm at least) makes it so easy to get lost in a live mix. IMO the brashness of the III is better here.
I thought the RI was super legit for guys that don't already have an OG...
While we may have different opinions on what speakers sound good with a MkIV, I have found that my IVs (and my IIB) are very picky with speakers. Contrast to my IIC+ and IIIs that tend to be happy with any good speaker. So, if you have a IV it's worth your time to see what fits best for you.
I set up all my recordings starting with the level at the cab +/- 100 dB, then dial the preamp input to around -6 dB. Then, since louder is always "better" when comparing, I'll level match in post. I also added a basic HPF / LPF, it was actually pretty woofy without it. This TV cab really moves...
