My main rig for past 5 years has been a Splawn Super Sport with Helix for affects, OD pedals, etc. For he time being, i am perfectly content... I have no clue how I will feel a month from now. Who knows, I'll prob start rolling tubes again.

I have both the Splawn 212 and EVH 212. The tone and resonance are pretty close. The EVH breaks up just a hair earlier. Going from a 412 to 212, you will also appreciate the dimensions of the Splawn cab too. It's slightly larger than most other 212's cabs, which helps give it more overall body.

There is a noticeable difference between the 6v6 and EL34 version. The 6v6 compresses quickly compared to the EL34. In my personal experience, this allows a much broader sweep in level of overdrive with the EL34. The 6v6 was a tad more Fender'ish, whereas the El34 is an improved Marshall...

EVH Wolfgangs are a solid choice too. Full sounding without booming bass or piercing highs. Nice cleans too. I have both the Rebels and EVHs, I get what you are explaining. The EVHs aren't as high output or aggressive sounding as the Aldridge or JB though.
