They're darker. They're the darkest V30 variant, IMO. I've got a couple of Relic 30's (relabeled Vintage 30MF's) in my cab, and they're way darker than any other Celestion I've tried.
I'm sure there are ore have been variations within the Chinese production as well.
I used to have a couple or 25th Anniversary Chinese V30's from 2012. They sounded darker, and were noticeably less efficient than the newer standard Chinese V30 in my Orange PPC112 (yes, I did get to try both in...
I really dig the Electro Harmonix Black Finger. It's far from transparent or subtle, though. I mean, it can be dialed in subtly, but that would be a waste of the tube section. It's pretty much a tube preamp with some compression added in. It overdrives pretty nicely, and it can add a pleasant...
Funny. Each to his own. I had the Maxon OD808 for a short while too. It was a great pedal for sure. It's way more transparent than the Ibanez. Arguably, it was "better"... but I still liked the mids the Ibanez had that the Maxon didn't.
I also had the Maxon OD9. I liked that one better than the...
What are you guys liking? I've gone through a few, and so far, I've liked the plain jane TS808 the best. Still curious if there's something better out there.
I really like the creamy/chunky/squishy/warm mids of my TS808. It seems like no other TS-type boost I've tried nails that. I, however...
Thanks for the replies, dudes! I think I'm pulling the trigger on an Air Norton. I'll keep you guys posted. I'll be pairing it with a Dominion in the bridge. :)
Thanks for the replies, dudes.
I've already tried the PAF Pro (too bright for my taste) and the PAF 36th Neck (too low output). Maybe I ought to try the PAF 36th Bridge in the neck. Hmmm...
Wondering what you guys recommend. I like the usual go-tos (Duncan '59, Jazz, DiMarzio PAF Pro, etc.) clean, but have never been happy with the attacky, bright character of a lower wind for smooth liquid leads under tons of gain. I actually like the EQ of the PAF 36th Anniversary, but I find it...
