My understanding is that the switchable loop is first in the series.. Meaning the external preamp should actually feed your Gmajor 2's input Thus the GMajor 2's return wouldn't be dead. :)

Nothing about the vh4 was EVER a mistake. It got you where you are today and those early amps blessed our ears with some of the best sounds we have ever heard! Let us call it a 'Learning Experience'.

Just try it man. The worst thing that can happen is that you wont like it and you can sell it. Pickups can easily make or break a guitar, so I'd hold onto the JB no matter what you try because it works well in that guitar and you can always go back to it as a reference.
The op realizes that. Using something like a GCP or Rocktron all access and a full midi rig it would just make sense to have a CC button for volume 2 for instance instead of having to make a preset for every channel with volume 2 enabled. That requires 4 extra buttons on the floor vs 1 for a CC...
When I plug my GCX into my Hagen I get a low pitched hum type noise. I can hear hum at all times and the hum changes when I use the controller. I can even 'hear' the display changing when it is in its boot up loop. As soon as I unplug the GCX no noise. Im powering via 7 pin phantom.
I do...

Oh that was great. Best post I've read in a long time.
Also, have you considered different cab/speakers? I ran v30s and g12k100's in an X pattern in a FL cab. It helped brighten the top end up for me and brought that head to life.
Hey Kit. The tubes in there are all Peter's old recommended tubes. The pre's are all Ruby HG+ or HGs. The power tubes are Ruby EL34BHT matched Quad. The V1 is the tube that shipped from Diezel in my blueface (in it's v1 spot). I believe its a TAD.
I always find that recording you need WAY more treble than you would think you do initially. Listen to the Banana. Set your amp up for the mic'd signal not the room. It's best if you can put the cabinet and mic in a place that you can't hear when you're getting your tone while you can still...
VH4's (at least older ones) it was the first 2 digits. Otherwise they don't encode them. The amp's serial #'s are sequential. You have to post your serial # here and someone should be able to answer you.
