I played the same model at a local GC a few times. It felt solid, and I really liked it except this one had sharp fret ends that would've needed filed down -- the high E string kept catching on the higher frets. I kind of wish I would've grabbed it but just dislike getting something I probably...
I basically see rock as people just being themselves and wearing whatever they normally wear, too. But if it's something like a glam tribute, Hendrix tribute, KISS tribute, etc., I can imagine it seeming a bit lame to just wear jeans and shirts for those who probably show up wanting to see...
That ^. It's fine to be happy with doing things the way you like and I can understand the feeling of honor in it, but as long as it's not something like lip syncing all the vocals or air guitaring it and as long as the instrument you play is clear and you're doing it live, it's not a problem for...
That sounds badass. 8)
Did you like the preamp fairly well before the mods?
I just did a couple swaps on my Rockmaster, and it definitely thickened up the pull-gain and made it sound nice, but I kind of don't want to have to mod a new Engl if I were to order one.
That ^
And try a different boost and an eq pedal in front and/or in the loop and/or a different cab/speakers, etc... Those alone will probably make at least as much difference as buying another amp.
I'm still in Tulsa, and that sounds awesome! I'm off during weekends and have been wanting to check out that Kemper since you mentioned you had it a while back! 8)
Great deal, and I think it'll probably work great for those amps, though you may want to mix some V30's in at some point if you don't end up being totally satisfied! I have one of the '80s metal-grill cabs that originally came with G12m70's that I replaced with 2 EV12L's and 2 V30's and dig it...
I was looking at that 100 Watt VHT the few days it was there, as well. :D
Edit: Very nice, though I'd probably want to boost it, too. 8)
Just read some other posts. There's currently a 50 Watt CL that seems to have been available at the GC a few times and is still at the Tulsa one, but the...
I know you said non-modded, but you could likely get a late '70s to early '80s JMP or JCM 800, pay a local tech probably a small amount to add a loop and maybe change the filter caps while at it. And with a simple boost in front you'd likely have tone that works awesome for simple classic rock...
Being that the Elite strats had push buttons for switching instead of a 5-way selector, I was wondering if the same switching system is important, as well... like if the bridge and neck might be used together for some of the tones.
Very cool to hear what you've done, and that guy in the video...
