Truthfully, a "budget" amp that gets looked over a good bit is the Splawns. For a little more than 1250, I think you'll be much happier with a Nitro or QR than something just completely lacking in every way. YMMV. I think Scott's amps are still underpriced when you consider what's out there...
It's since been "taken down" or sold however, .. the question remains. Perhaps this will turn into a wrong answers only thread... maybe someone will enlighten me.
(I believe it was a 68)
Svetlanas brighter or darker? (if you formed an opinion)
I'd be curious... Always heard/read the "JJ's are Dark" thing and in my experience the Svetlanas seemed pretty balanced if not on the brighter side last I heard a set.
Ol’ Sykes…I’ve heard several guys say he was another one hiding the “Jose Secret”…
LOVES that dudes tone, phrasing, rythyms.. man alive that dude just got it.
He tried to buy an amp of Reverb from someone I know and apparently has like 20 Jose’s…. That’s his story anyway.
A rundown of speakers I use/used with both my Modded Marshalls by Scott and my Quickrods
g12-65
g12-h30
V30
Eminence Man O' War
1970's Marshall 4x12 with Original Greenbacks
Altec 417
G12-75
G12-70
IMHO, the Greenback really favors the Quickrod. Cons? Breakup. If you're REALLY driving the amp...
