Thanks for the answer. I'm half considering selling my Helix LT getting one of these- I have Helix native already, and I'm really only using the modeling on the LT to ape my fireball 100. If the preamp live does that as well or better at a lower cost and smaller footprint, it's right up my alley.
I just bought the 6 string variant of this about a month ago- got a scratch and dent model from Musician's Friend- first one had a super jacked up neck, second one was much better. Still needed some TLC from a tech to iron our a few QC issues, but now I'm really enjoying it. Great feature set...
Bad ass, still curious about that pickup myself, especially since so many call it a souped up Duncan distortion. Love the single pickup single volume configuration too.
I recently installed a set of hipshots in one of my guitars, I really like them- much more smooth feeling than the sperzels (which have served me well for years) I have in another guitar. The universal mount plate made installation as easy as changing strings.
I've been somewhat curious about BKP's as well, though the price coupled with my high level of satisfaction with the Duncan Distortion has deterred me from taking the plunge. I did just buy a KM-6 mkii that has a nazgul in the bridge- so far, I still prefer the DD, going to give it a bit longer...
I had a Mesa oversized 4x12 that served me well for years, sold it after my old band broke up. Now I have a couple of 2x12's and a 1x12- my oversized 2x12 doesn't leave me feeling like I'm missing anything, and it fits in my current car.
I agree with this. Carvin/Kiesel had always been in my mind as a prime option if I ever had a custom/semi custom build done. I'm glad these stories came out before I risked having my own bad experience.
Man, if you're worried about weight, a tube combo is probably a bad idea- that one weighs 64 lbs and is probably awkward in its weight distribution. You would probably be better off looking into some other lunch box heads or digging into the modeling world.
I like the idea of having an emergency backup you can run direct with, like one of the Mooer preamp pedals with a cab sim output. $100 and next to no space in the gig bag buys a lot of peace of mind.
I'm super happy with my LT. I would only consider the full Helix if the additional I/O was something needed. Performance view on the LT is plenty good, don't feel like the scribble strips are worth paying a premium for.
