Thanks for the post. It was the preamp tube sockets locked into the chassis cutouts. The control faceplate fit tightly around the pots and basically nothing would move. Once you remove the faceplate (double-stick tape) you'll see the holes in the chassis for the pots are oblong. So that side of...
Embarrassing, but I can't get the main PCB out. I know it sounds ridiculous, but I had to just take a break before a damaged something. Anyway all the necessary spade connectors have been disconnected, retaining nuts off the pots and 23 (labeled ST1-ST23, so I thinks that's all of them) PCB...
IIRC it's the loop jacks. Clean/Lubricate them and you'll be in business. Start by cycling a plug in the jacks a few times and see if that clears things up temporarily. If you crack open the chassis, be careful, there are dangerous voltages nearby. Good luck and report back.
Saw them last night I'm MKE. It really was a great show. They're so tight it's pretty ridiculous. Mangini seems to fit in really well and appeared to really be enjoying himself. I also agree that LaBrie's vocals were very good. Minor gripe... I love the older stuff, but you can only fit so much...
Well, you can try cycling them a bit with a plug. I'm sure some have sprayed contact cleaner in there, but that could be messy. I pulled the chassis to do mine. To test you can just jumper the loop with a patch cable and see if that resolves the problem. If so you know it's the jacks.
Wishing Mike a speedy recovery. I scarcely ride any longer. Maybe I'm getting old, but distracted driving (no idea if that's what happened here) is a scary thing.
Yeah, I hear ya there. Lots of folks don't like the 2700 system, but it never bothered me. One other bad thing about them is they have a design flaw where the bridge pivot posts are too close to the pickup route and the vast majority have cracked (on the low E side) under tension. So if you're...
