I do like the Rev C configuration best but damn it was a fun deep dive into learning about reading schematics and applying that to circuits and layouts.
I haven't found much discussion other than a thread on the Duncan forum and a comparison vid on YT but I've been running my Seymour Duncan Machete in my Ormsby Dino sig with 24v since i got it and haven't looked back 😅
What do you guys think? anyone else running them or any Blackouts at 24v...
It was back in 2007, we played a gig with a power/thrash metal band that had one and he let me rip through it before their set and was blown away, I thought it was a custom modded Marshall, I was a tube amp newb at that time.
I can't believe it's been 14 years since I got that 2ch Triple...
Not around as much as I used to be but I'm thankful to be here and to still have a place to go for info, great discussions, good dudes and the occasional off the rail thread, cheers to all past, present and future members!
I ended up having to cancel my trip to the rehearsal space over the weekend but got down here today and swapped the new 12AX7B's in, they sound really close to the early 90s tubes but with a punchier low end, I dig them and I'm leaving them in the stealth.
I just received 8 of them Friday from the tube store, I'm gonna throw them in my EVH Stealth later on tonight to replace the NOS Shuguangs I have in there now to preserve them and report back.
Thanks for the advice and responses, sadly someone bought that JVM before I got there so I'll have to scour the web for another at a good price. I'll still be keeping the Stealth when I do get a JVM though, good to have a few really good high gainers around :m17:
I currently have an EVH 5150 III Stealth 100S 6L6 that I'm really digging and it's gotten me closer to this sound in my head but I've recently played a Marshall JVM 410H at GC albeit I didn't get to crank it but I'm going back later today to do so and I'm thinking it may be closer to that tone...
Thank you guys, this definitely made playing fun again, I was in a rut for a while!
I didn't think I'd like the neck as I have medium-large hands but it's got enough to grab onto as opposed to my old Schecter Banshee Mach 7 with it's Ultra Thin "˜U" that I couldn't bond with, that one felt too...
That was a close one  but definitely keep it, you'll kick yourself forever, I am for selling a JCM 800 about 20 years ago when I first started playing and not knowing what I was doing and going on that never ending chasing the dragon tone chase.
I got this in about 2 weeks ago but wanted to put it through it's paces and played a gig with it and hot damn it's probably the best guitar I've played so far, feels like butter with the thin neck and low action and that Seymour Duncan Machete pickup kicks all kinds of ass!
As a huge FF fan...
Congrats on the score, that's one badass sounding amp, still want one of these bad boys even though I'm smitten with my EVH stealth 100, the Metalhead modded 800 is still the tone I've been chasing for the longest
Hell yeah, congrats on the NAD! :D
A nice little trick with the 100S is the gain pot on the blue channel affects the gain on the red channel, like engaging a boost, so if you feel it's too over the top, completely roll back the gain on the blue channel. if you want all out brutality on the red...
I've had my stealth 100 6L6 for 8 months now and have rolled a bunch of tubes in and out of it, lower gain tubes dull out and thin out the amp. I ended up settling on Tung Sol in V1. NOS Shuguang in V2-V3, RFT's in V4 through V6, another NOS Shuguang in V7 and a Sovtek LPS in V8. I'm also...
The EVH 5150 III Stealth 100 I just acquired, it just relegated all my other amps to sit in the corner (Peavey XXX and Ultra Plus, 5150 Iconic and even my Rev C modded Triple)
