Mesa switched the way power was delivered to the switching circuit sometime throughout the life of Rev F, in his case a direct winding off of the PT.
If you look at the other pic it still has the white 220 ohm wire resistor in place to the left of said capacitor since the power was fed...
The original cap was probably replaced, a little higher voltage tolerance but same value (2200uf)
That's for the switching circuit so it will not have any effect on tone.
I'd say clear out the JJ's from V1 through V4 but leave one in V5
Throw a EH 12AX7 in V1 and Shuguang 12AX7B's in V2 through V4, the best combo for aggression, clarity and tightness without going NOS
Your clip didn't sound that bad honestly.
Damn, that previous owner could've gotten a Rev F/G Triple and reverted it to pre-500 specs and saved time, effort and cash.
Any gut shots? I'd still buy it.
The power transformer usually gets hot, like a medium hotness with 6L6's but gets hotter with EL34's.
I haven't played my amp for more than 30 minutes at a given time lately but surely others will chime in.
Do you live in an area with a hot climate?
