I recently picked up a Rev F Dual Rec with the Mark III transformers. Great amp. Has EL34's, but I'm going to throw in some Ruby 6L6GCMSTR's just to see how it reacts.

I pulled the chassis, just to make sure there weren't any bias mods etc...done to the amp by previous owners to run the Tung Sol el34's that are in it. All the resistors across the tube sockets look factory. However, there is a capacitor and what looks like a resistor that appear to have been changed at some point. They don't match stock parts I see on guts shots of other Rev F's. The value of the capacitor also appears to be different than stock. Can anyone tell me why this may have been changed?

My Rev F gut shot, suspected changed capacitor/ resistor circled in yellow:

Pic I found on Google of another Rev F:

The original cap was probably replaced, a little higher voltage tolerance but same value (2200uf)

That's for the switching circuit so it will not have any effect on tone.

Excellent, thank you!!

I see this a little different, yours looks to read 2200uf and the other reads 220uf...

Mesa switched the way power was delivered to the switching circuit sometime throughout the life of Rev F, in his case a direct winding off of the PT.

If you look at the other pic it still has the white 220 ohm wire resistor in place to the left of said capacitor since the power was fed differently to the switching circuit, hence the change in capacitance to his amp.

What pictures I could dig up of current and past rev F gut shots of mine, my pics match the 2nd pic you posted, not your amp. Like mentioned, probably was changed at some point.

As far as tubes, I wind up going with all EL34's or an EL34/KT77 mix with all my rectos, even my modded triple F from Kyle Rhodes. They just sound so much more lively to me when compared to 6L6's.

I found the same thing when I looked up multiple gut shots. Mine looks identical in every way except for the one blue capacitor and black resistor that's next to it.

Mine is #001690
