Thicker wire has less resistance so there will be less loss and the amp will not clip as early. Due to the high output impedance of a tube amp this will be most noticeable in the midrange. However I doubt the difference between even 18 gauge and 12 gauge for the short lengths in a speaker...

Demand for FX only rack units is insufficient to warrant development. Personally I prefer rack units but everything seems to be going pedals.

My gigging rig for many years included a 2-50-2. To bias it I measured the resistance of the OT and then measured the voltage drop across it. IIRC it sounded best biased on the hot side and I used to run around 38mA.
