@glip22. So in a sense what you're saying is you're boosting your amp with itself, but you've found the jacks to be mislabeled. How long were they built "wrong" for. Just the initial run or up until now.
Does anyone know if the Shiva loop uses switching jacks to bypass the loop when it's not...
I'm lookin for advice on a guitar preamp to run into my DAW for guitar sounds. I've been running my amps through a hotplate and just want to simplify.
Trying to keep it under $500 and prefer knobs and switches to patches and presets.
I've been pretty happy with direct recording my amps ever since I found out how to use impulse responses as plugins and the line out from a THD hotplate.
Wondering if any of you have some favorite preamps to use for this application. Just trying to avoid burning out all my power tubes when...
If you're going direct I'd suggest something with active pickups. You'll have a better control of the sounds you're getting. Look at the higher end Ibanez soundgear SRX basses with two pickups. Lots of tones and slim necks that setup low for easy action.
Classic basses like ricks and fenders...
I'm a big fan of true tremolo sounds. The EHX goes a little over the top with the worm, and it gets pretty wacky. If you're looking for a raw tremolo sound the Boss TR-2 is good after you clip the cap that cures the volume drop.

Are there any other amps that do clean like the Shiva? I thought I remember that the clean channel was almost identical to a Fender somethingoranother....
^^^Good call!^^^
I tried three different sets of IR plug-in's and the Redwirez blew them all away with the single cab that they offer as a demo.

For now, I'm ok without an AxeFX as running my VHT > THD Hotplate > Garage Band with the Redwirez IR...
I already have a THD and have not used it for direct in off a tube amp though. I'll get to try it this afternoon, and already downloaded some cab simulators. It would be cool for once if I didn't have to buy a new piece of gear to do what I want to do.
Thanks for the responses. Found this, gonna give it a shot. Free 30 Day trial, can't go wrong.

If there's anything else you'd look at, let me know.
Anyone using a THD Hotplate in the load setting, with a line out to your interface, and a VST + Impulse response for recording? If so, how do you like it? (or dislike it)
 That would be money well spent. The only downside is you would end up using it for everything else. In a way I kind of see the PC to Mac debate as a similar debate to Analog Pre or Axe-FX. I bought a Mac to prove a friend wrong.... I lost that argument. Haven't had a PC in 5 years.
After trying one, I'm starting to believe the hype. They are definitely well beyond any software or othe processor I've tried. I know a lot of you guys have had one and then sold it down the road. Let me know if you had the standard or ultra, how long you had it, and why you decided to sell...
