The live in Austin set is what got me into EJ. The dude crushes it live, so much better than the over produced records that he put out in the 80's/90's. Don't get me wrong, I love the songs, but he's a live player.
My friend had one in '98. I worked with him on getting some good tones out of it. It certainly has an 80's sound to it. I preferred my Mp1 with a Intellifex, it was more authentic.
I started on the same guitar too! Hondo II LP with a sunburst top. Looking at pictures of them they look to be solid (as in good) bodies, but I sold mine decades ago and only played it through a gen 1 crate 10" practice amp.
I think for the guys that came up in the 60/70's, Jimi was the number 1. Trower, Uli, Frank Marino, George Lynch, Vai amongst 100s all have Hendrix as their primary or one of their primary influences. But by the time I came up in the 80's, I don't know anyone that would have listed Hendrix in...
I personally love MS, one of the greatest vibratos of all time. Live, his tone is so thick, it's butter. If you look at European metal bands, he has to rank as one of the greatest ever. He is one of my personal hero's and was a major influence for me.
Ed is a better player and certainly...
Question to the OP, are you looking for new guys, guys under 40, under 30 that have a new sound, or are you looking for new guys that have the old sound, but do it well?
It seems from the responses here that most are just looking for a rehash of what they like (Big Wreck as the example). There...
I think there are a lot of guys out there that are bringing their own style. Polyphia get mentioned a lot, but they have been working their butts off. I've seen them three times and it's crazy to see a sold out club full of 20 somethings (yes, even 40%-50% women) for an instrumental band. I'm...
I still play my V2 daily. I go back and forth between my amps, but I'm still finding new sounds in here. I love them.
With that said, I do have an itch for a JPC2, as I use midi for everything.
I can't even imagine what that would have been like to see him then. He would have been like an alien amongst all of the guys still playing the 70's style, with a hint of EVH.
Like many of the 80's generation here, George Lynch made me want to pick up a guitar, but Yngwie made me want to play. I worshipped Yngwie. I had the Live in 85 VHS tape and I would watch that everyday after school and then go practice for hours trying to play like him. My first concert was...
My love of Andy Timmons makes me want to get one. They are essentially a Fender twin. He uses it as a pedal platform, so if you are thinking it's going to get the crushing Mesa tone, it has a lead tone stack, but the cleans were the main point of the amp. It was trying to capture some of the...
Same here. He played me Exploder, as we were both heavily into the Shrapnel guys. I still love the production on that, how they have a close mic on the guitar (like micing an acoustic); so you hear the pick attack on the strings. He really had a Gary Moore vibe on that record, but still his...
I really like mine, and while I haven't boosted it or put pedals in front of it, I would like to have more of an Andy timmons sound out of it. I feel like it does cleans really well and it does the Mark 2-4 really well, but that in between LD1 is really lacking. Again, maybe I need to setup a...
