I've gotten a opportunity to buy a rack with those?

But never tried it before and can't before buying.

So people, is it any good?? :D

Don't know the serial of the triaxis. I've read somewhere about the phat mode, what is that?

There basicly three version of the Triaxis that only differ in the Lead 1 Red channel.

V1 has a british based L1 Red
V2 has a Dual Rectifier based L1 Red
V2.1 has the Dual Rectifier based L1 Red with the fat mod
V3 is the newest version.

Most people like the Version V2 with the non-fat mod Rectifier board best whereas the L1 Red with fat mod is deemed as not usable. The versions can easily be distinguished by the serial numbers.
Again, we are talking only about one channel here that differs, the other ones are identical.

This was THE rack system to have back in the day. I couldn’t afford this level of gear, but a very good friend of mine had a Triaxis and 2:90 driving a pair of straight front Marshall 4x12s and he had hands down the absolute best tone on the circuit. (That was back in the heyday of actually being paid a modest but livable wage to play live 4 nights a week…)

If I had the chance to grab a Triaxis and 2:90, I wouldn’t hesitate.

Completely agree

I had version one of the Triaxis. A lot of version two came from my feedback. It's a good unit for what it is. I would definitely get it for $1000.

It's around 1k usd for both units

Great price. Best Triaxis version is version 2 without fat mod but version 1 is great. If in good shape I'd snag that immediately. I played for years with a Triaxis/2:90 rig and it was awesome. My Triaxis is broken right now but I'm trying to get it repaired.

great gear great price
rhythm yellow hyperclean and LD II yellow are worth the proce of admission
(former V2 no fat mod/395 owner)

As someone who had a massive rack with a version 1 and dual recto (non fat) units, I will say they are killer. I had both of my Triaxis units modded for the ++ mod on the 2C+ channel (Done by Mike or John Marshall). I also had added switching to both units so I could turn on/off the custom boogie stereo GEQ. The one thing I hated with both triaxis’ was the internal GEQ…it wasn’t to my liking. As a big fan of the Strategy 400, mine were modded with depth circuits so for me it sounded and felt better than the 2-90. The tone was insane. I would run each triaxis on one side for a stereo sound. My friend Joe helped me with a lot of this stuff.

I would jump on this deal, I think you could easily unload for a profit right now. With all the digital preamps and tube preamp pedals, I see tube power amps being sought after right now. And the Triaxis still has value too.

This was the combo all my friends wanted in the 90s

I still play my V2 daily. I go back and forth between my amps, but I'm still finding new sounds in here. I love them.

With that said, I do have an itch for a JPC2, as I use midi for everything.

Buy it now. Hell for $1k, I'll buy it. :)

Also, the Triaxis is a great preamp, but you will need an external EQ to put between it and the poweramp if you want it to sound its best. The Triaxis has a "built in" graphic EQ called the Dynamic Voice that basically slowly mixes a heavily "Flying-V EQ'ed" signal with the non-EQ'd signal, and it's crap.

Gigged a Triaxis /2:90 setup for years. Wish I still had that setup.

What a rig. Wow.

Totally agree with you about the Triaxis needing an external EQ though. I get that Mesa wanted to make a 1U preamp, however I can't help but think about how awesome something like a 2U Traixis with the 2nd row dedicated to a digitally controlled 5 band GEQ would have been.

I know it doesn't do much good to sit around what-if-ing, but I feel like they must have considered doing that, given how much of an obvious compromise (not to mention how universally disliked) the Dynamic Voice control was.
