I`ve got an almost identical set up: Jackson PC-3 with a Wilkinson, bone nut and Planet Waves locking tuners. I have mine set up floating and I can do most of the Satriani/Vai stuff (except the crazy dives and whammy melodies) without going out of tune. The key is having the guitar set up right.
Afaik, Ibanez uses their own systems. The clostest one being the "zero-resistance" tremolo: --> http://www.ibanez.com/eg/guitar.aspx?m=S7320 It seems they have that on all the better S-XXXX models, i.e. an S-1000. You should be able to find one of those at your local GC.
Here´s a picture of my favourite Floyd Rose style Trem. It`s a Schaller with the recessed fine tuners that are lower than the saddles so you can rest your hand comfortably without them getting in the way:
Big +1 on that.
Imho, you don`t have to be afraid of the Whammy, it`s one of the coolest toys the electric guitar offers. As far as suggestions, you first need to figure out if you want locking nuts or not. If you want all the crazy dive bomb action there`s no way around the locking nuts and a...
Congrats!!! That sounds like a great solution to me and I wish you all the best in finding a fitting home in the future! Preferably one where you can set up a rockin music basement and crank the toys!
True, you got a point and I completely agree, especially with the proper budget part. But like you said, buying real estate is a big risk and I always cringe when I hear people talking about buying homes and taking that risk, when owning a home doesn`t rationally make their life that much...
Well, yeah. But that`s unrealistic so my advise is to keep it as safe as possible financially speaking. And everything under 40% is too high of a risk still imho unless you have a super safe job that guarantees you yearly salary raises etc... Usually the brokers will recommend a lower percentage...
I`m no expert when it comes to buying a house, but I`m an expert when it comes to finances and I would never ever go under 40% down. If you can`t do that: Move and keep renting until you have the dough. Remember subprime?
I`ve had some great cases done by RockHardCases as well, awesome quality. I guess you really can`t go wrong as long as the specs are right and the company has a history.
Seen him two days ago: Rockin tone and performance!   Reb Beach was awesome as well, the band as a whole sucked though because Coverdale used playback and was a whiney bitch. Alice Cooper destroyed them afterwards...
I think the idea is great and will be realized in some form or another soon. My brother is researching new textile materials for industrial use at a very renowned University here and they aren`t far away from flexible but incredible durable textiles. Actually they are already out there but have...
I think much of it has to do with Jaymes`voice, awesome back then. But he had to take the toll and therefore he never went full blast after the black album, kinda sad but the only way to go. Sometimes he still has those moments where he goes all out like in parts of Turn the Page, always gives...
I personally don`t like their live tone at that time too much because it is too scooped. But man: How they go into Master of Puppets is just so Metal
Yep, these settings sound about right for Herbie`s channel 2+ as well. You don`t need much that much gain for Tool, I would say no more than 2 o`clock.
I honestly think switching to the second channel on plus mode will get you the thicker sound. The third channle is much more scooped sounding and tailored to cut through for leads. Try it by recording a comparison.
 Thanks Olaf! Good to see that Steavens is back in Business! I`ve only had the chance to hear a Steavens once and it sounded great! Hopefully somebody will buy one and post clips soon...
