It depends on how you adjust it. I have one adjusted tighter and it just takes a slightly firmer push/pull to raise/lower. I have another adjusted pretty loose that feels almost like there's nothing there. I did get one that had a wonky spring, that would stay a hair sharp after pull up, but...

I find the stock Gibson 490R or 496R sound really good. The Slash 2.0 is pretty great as well
