Gibson Burstbucker #1 or a BK Mule
I have one of these I could try out. I have 57 classics in another guitar but I've never tried the 490r in the same axe as a 57 before. Any insight to how those two stack up?I find the stock Gibson 490R or 496R sound really good.
They sound good when the volume pot is down low. Cranked up they can get a bit nasty but def usable.I have one of these I could try out. I have 57 classics in another guitar but I've never tried the 490r in the same axe as a 57 before. Any insight to how those two stack up?
This was very helpful, thanks Geo.They sound good when the volume pot is down low. Cranked up they can get a bit nasty but def usable.
The Lucille set was 490r/490t so maybe a pickup I already have will get the job done which is great since I'm tapped out of gear dough right now, lol.I like my LP neck humbucker to cut snd have a certain snap to it. Think BB King. Not single coil-ish, but a nice pop when you hit the note. The tone knob can be dialed back for the thicker stuff.
I have a Biltoft/Vintage Vibe 10 percent overwound HS90 with all the magnets he offered but no matter what magnet combo I tried I hated that thing in my LP.

Fralins are my #2 to a Tom Holmes. Might need a little more bite for playing with dirt though. The absolute best neck humbucker I ever tried was the Fralin Pure PAF 7.5K model. Lots of clarity and chime and sings under crunch or high gain.
