Just got one a week ago and it's the 2014 model. I ran my Strymon delay in the loop and didn't notice any weirdness, but I'll have to check again. Have any Archon owners played this amp with the gain at 3:00 or higher? I find that when I palm mute and the gain is set that high I get this...
Well I decided to keep my VH4. I got it figured out. It only took 2 years lol. Mine is a 2013 and It sounds awesome now that the speaker situation and bias is set right.
"My buddy is selling one for $2900. Pm me if you want his info.
2002 model. Best sounding era."
So is this quote you put up a few days ago true or not? :)
Which do you prefer?
After trying some EL34BSTR's in my VH4 and not liking the sound at all I decided to go back to the KT77's. When I bias the the 77's I get one pair at 70mA while the other is at 62mA. I'm assuming this is okay, or should I lower the bias to 65mA and 57mA respectively?
I hooked it up and everything works. However when I switch channels it has to be in sequence from 1 to 2 to 3 and vice versa. If I try and go from 1 to 3 or from 3 to 1 it won't switch and defaults to channel 1. I can switch from channel 1 to 2 and back and from channel 2 to 3 and back...
I agree I dig the mids and the attitude better. I pretty much do riff rock so I'm not looking for a lead channel. Took me a year to figure out this amp and the coolness of channel 4. Definitely more attitude and a cooler midrange Prog.
I'm liking this channel more than channel 3. I just back the gain down to 10 O'clock and I find that It's still as tight but with a bit more saturation and a bit meaner sounding.
Is the V3 slot in the VH4 cathode follower slot? I currently have a Tungsol in there and I dig it but i know the Tungsols die in the cathode follower slots.
