I'd say so. It's got a pretty strong output on the bridge, but to me it still feels like a PAF. It doesn't get the high output pickup feel that you'd get from something like a Dimarzio or BKP in that output range. Also cleans up great with the guitar volume.
Aldrich uses them in his Les Pauls...
I have a set of covered Aldrich's in my SC58, I like them a whole lot better than the JB in that guitar. They push the front of the amp just a hair harder and have a little bit of sparkle on the top end that makes them cut through the mix better.
I had one on a partscaster. It's not quite the same as an actual Ibanez wizard, the shoulders feel a bit more rounded to me. Comfortable neck overall though, it's the closest thing you can get to a shred neck from Warmoth.
Might want to consider the Musikraft Thin D, it is a killer neck shape.
It's not as bad as you might think it is from watching tv/hearing about it...but it was not too long ago. In 2021, the nice hotels like the St Francis and Fairmont were literally boarded up with plywood and made guests enter through the back. Not the case any longer, it's back to being a...
The city itself is kind of a mess these days, but there are some cool spots in the greater bay area. Bananas in Santa Rosa, Guitar Showcase in San Jose, Danville Music in the east bay, Gryphon near Stanford.
Hollywood GC and Sam Ash, across the street from each other. Two of the best LA spots believe it or not, some incredible gear comes through those shops.
Norm's is worth a visit just to check out all the cool stuff they have, but beware it's not for the faint of wallet.
Hahaha I love that guitar, tried unsuccessfully to get him to sell it to me when he was working down in Dave Friedman's shop in Burbank. I always wondered what happened to it - hit me up if you ever decide to sell it!
Someone buy this head, it's a total flamethrower. I would grab it myself if I...
He switched to Victory V100 heads for the Book of Souls album and tour, but went back to the JMP-1 Pre immediately after that tour. Other than that stint, he's pretty much exclusively been running that preamp for everything since the early 90's until the recent switch to Fracal.
I like the Kemper a little better going direct to board in terms of feel, but sounds like Dave is just using it as a preamp + fx unit and is still running a EL34 power amp and stage cabs. Kinda makes sense, he was running the JMP-1/JFX-1 pre/fx for decades, he's just using the model of it and...
Yup. One of the Maiden guitarists (Dave I think?) actually used DSL's this way as power amps in his live rig for years being fed by a JMP-1 preamp, probably preferred the tone to using a rack power amp.
Used to constantly have this problem in the studio, and it was literally recorded for reference. Same rig, same settings - sometimes it would sound huge and other times just harsh. Turns out the voltage out of the wall was all over the damned place. Doesn't affect most other gear, but tube amps...
I had a strat with a VT on it. With a properly cut/lubricated nut and good locking tuners, it definitely can take some abuse and stay in tune. Looks kind of funny IMO. Tonally it wasn't for me - it had kind of a thin bright sound, probably due to the skinny trem block (to their credit, at least...
Yes, it would now be rear loaded. The change would likely be a bit of a bump in the mids because the baffle thickness is having a slight horn loading effect on the speaker.
