Looking for the right HSS set for my dream Strat build

That looks awesome dude! I'm building a HSS Strat right now as well on this body from USACG/MJT. Have you considered going to a boutique pickup builder to get something that matches your style? I have pickups inbound from Sean at Pariah. he made me a Poundcake bridge which is his version of the...

Any love for the Ampeg VL 1002?

I've got one that Dave Friedman modded years ago and I think passed around LA for a while before I picked it up, it absolutely rips. Kind of like a more aggressive HBE.

Where is your optimal volume control placement?

Same, the Strat location for me is perfect. I'm constantly riding the volume when I play so it's convenient to just adjust it with my pinky without my hand having to leave picking position. Learned how to play with it right there so it doesn't really get in my way.

    NAD: Fryette Sig-X

Nice man, you got the cab too? Sweet! When you start diving into it, check out some of the posts Steven has made over on the Fryette forum about different settings. There's so much stuff that amp can do you'd never expect, like one post had a way to turn the Rhythm channel into a Blackface...

    Cab simulator for live rig?

Yeah I got my Suhr for $550 used, pricey but I get a lot of use out of it so I figured it was worth it. You could always just grab a standalone load box without the sim built in and run it into a TC impulse, there are some used original Suhr Reactives up on reverb around $300 I think.

There is not a single Cameron in anyone’s backline

Haha if anyone out there can mod me an Ocean I'd freaking love it, I got to play one years ago and it really was killer. No way in hell I'd roll the dice and send one to Mark though, sounds like he's back to his old ways. I get that it's one of those things that people want more and more...

    Cab simulator for live rig?

Yup, you just want a Reactive Load with a speaker sim. My favorite is the Suhr Reactive Load IR, I use it mostly recording but it sounds killer live. There are a few other popular ones, Two Notes Captor X, Universal Audio OX. Boogie just came out with theirs, I think it's called the Cabclone IR.

    Cab simulator for live rig?

You could try it and see how it sounds. I don't care for the Effects Send -> IR thing, especially with an amp like a Splawn where a lot of the tone comes from the power section. But you might like it, only one way to find out.

Shipping problems are out of control

Yeah man, I'm back in the bay again too. I wonder if it's a thing for our area?

    Cab simulator for live rig?

Going direct via monitors works great in theory until an awful FOH sound guy fucks you over ?. I'd always want at least a 1x12 nearby.

    Current used market

There's weird vicious cycle going on with people overpricing gear. Like a piece of gear is worth say $2-300, sells for around there regularly. Then some idiot lists it for $2000 (literally saw this happen a couple weeks ago, beat up old piece of 90's gear). So then people see that and start...

    Cab simulator for live rig?

Ah, yeah sorry I thought you had an AX8. Something like the TC would basically just take the place of the cab block, probably your best bet,

    Cab simulator for live rig?

Oh in that case you can just use the Fractal. Get an amp load, on the cheap any attenuator will work but it'll sound way better with something like a Suhr Reactive Load (you can find the non-ir version cheaper used). Then instead of 4CM bypass the FX loop entirely and cable it like: Guitar ->...

Who is using buffers on their pedalboard?

I don't understand why you'd need two buffers, but I'm down to try it to see what happens... but in terms of why it's important for guitar in particular, look at it this way - your guitar pickups, switching and wiring are a passive circult (unless you have an onboard preamp like EMG which I'm...

    Cab simulator for live rig?

What kind of amp are you running? You'll probably want one that has a load onboard, I really like the Suhr Reactive Load IR. If you don't need an impulse or if you have something you can use to load the amp down, the TC Impulse is like $125 and works as well as any other impulse loader out there.

Shipping problems are out of control

Anyone else notice that shipping problems are completely out of control now? I mean it's never been great but right now I'm dealing with: Ibanez J-Custom I bought shipped UPS 2-day, supposed to arrive last Tuesday. Delayed due to "severe weather" no update on where the package actually is and...

    GC fiasco... Bogner 2x12

Same thing happened to me with a Bogner 4x12, they listed it as "Excellent" but it showed up with the tolex torn up all over the thing. I had it shipped to my local GC for pickup and declined it there, ended up having to eat the shipping cost store-to-store but I guess that's just the cost of...

    Question for Sig:X owners

Agreed, but I think of it less as a lack of gain and more as a lack of compression. It has a definite effect on the feel of the amp, particularly when you're playing leads. I always have a Koko Boost running into the front of mine.

    Post Your Luxxtone Guitars

Picked this one up from Rebel a couple years ago. Plays just as awesome as she looks.
