Last year I have done several tests.
I compared several anlog chorus units, old and new as well as digital units. My aim was for a warm subtle solution.
More intense thick chorus sounds would have been a different topic.
The winners were the old blue CE-2 and the classic CE-1. Also the Chorus...
I have both. The CL will give you two great channels, highly tweakable from the GEQ. The D120 will give you one great channel that is certainly bigger sounding. It really depends on the genre, your preference and the level you play at. I would certainly try to play both. Enough reasons to own...
I would agree that the MW Triple sounds as good. There might be a tiny little difference in the room and in feel which I don't hear. Not woning a head, I would go for the MW since the clean is superior, you have as serial loop and three channels. I wouldn't call both percussive though.
And I hope it gives some insight for a few Rectifier lovers. It doesn't seem there are a lot of people that have tested the Preamp against the Reborn series.
Actually, there is a little history behind it. I enjoyed the Rectifier sound for a good while. And so I pulled out the unit I had to give it a deeper look after a few years. Taste changes and experience grows ... Plus, since I never bound with the combo I had, I thought: Let's find out if it the...
I went the long way to do a direct comparison: Dual Rectifier Reborn vs Rectifier Recording Preamp into the DR return. In addition I had a Syn-2 with a Dreadplate module by Salvation Mods and a Diabolo by Sacred Groove. The boost being used was an Airis Savage Boost.´The comparison is only about...
Thanks for this. And good news. Actually, getting the Preamp and the matching power amp had the reason to be more flexible back then. I went through many power amps (incl. the Strategy 400 and 500), but there is still unsureness. I guess I will need to borrow a Reborn head and check it A/B...
I own a Rectifier Recording Preamp and the 2:100 power amp. A great stereo setup that was designed to work together, according to Mesa Boogie (I don't need the rectifier tubes). However, the combo doesn't get much use here. And from time to time I wonder whether if I should get a Triple...
My MCII (2018) works fine with this super-simple and cheap solution:
This footswitch:

2 of these adapters:

and four white on black stickers from my labeling machines.
Works really fine.
Thanks for the impression. I took the chance and had a longer comparison yesterday. Focussing on crunch sounds only (amp switcher with same cab)
2203, Slash Jubilee and Killer Kali by Gower - no Wizard
The Silver Jubilee is certainly a great amp, but the mids seemed to be at a different higher...
It seems, the MC and the Silver Jubilee share similarities in the circuit. Has anyone played these side by side. I have not played a SJ and an MCII once.
From what I read, these are really different animals. Who can share a real life comparisons?
I see, Thanks for the detail.
Steve Fryette says that the GP3 actually does not have less gain compared to the Ultralead. I have not compared that and thought the Gainmod is not really "officially".
I can understand however taking the rack to a gig is a bit annoying.
Everyone.... I am toying with the idea of getting a CLX.
However, I do own a GP3 and a VHT Classic power amp.
Do I really need the CLX or do I have the full menu in stereo?
I wouldn't be unhappy because .... it's just getting too much. ;-) (if that's possible at all).
