Dave Friedman has praised Randall several times on Tone Talk. From what I’ve heard, it was more of a passion project than a desire to compete with other brands, which resulted in Randall going massively overboard on components quality.
I went on a cruise once, those rooms seem like they can accommodate 20% of the passengers, which is fine with a reoccurring show over a week, less great if an act is performing once.
My understanding is the VP4 does ambient only, while the FM3 can offer lots of effects you’d use before the amplifier input, like wah, octave, distortion, etc.
