Prices on Used Gear

I just saw a guy on TGP selling an amp for the exact price as new. He got it two days ago and played it for five minutes. I don’t give a shit, it’s fucking used now. It might be in new condition still but warranty is now voided. Idiots!
He's lowballing himself, could easily get an extra $100

The crazy thing is they can send it back for free with most online sellers

I see that every day. "I just want what I paid for it" Yeah, good fucking luck!

No kidding. If I wanted to pay retail I'd buy it from a retailer. Only time this bs makes sense is on a piece of gear that is backordered

Many overvalue their gear, or may be trying to cover reverb fees, etc.

I started taking things to GC, by the time I factor in the shipping, packing, fees, risks, etc. GC isn't that far off. Now if it's something rare or expensive, that's different.

I price my shit to move locally and online and it never seems to move. The last big piece of gear I sold was a USA Orange PPC 4x12. I had it up local for $700, then $600 then $500. No bites, not a single message. I took it to GC, they gave me $500 and put it up for $799.99. GC sold it a few weeks later. I'm just taking shit to Guitar Center. No packing, no shipping, no 1099 at the end of the year. Also no dealing with "Will you take a Boss Katana 50, a Snark and a Squier as a trade?".

Also shipping has been out of control lately. Not only shit getting lost, but it's expensive as hell.

Small Mom & Pops. I've bought a bit from Nstuff Music, I've bought from Matt's Music. They're out there.
If you are referring to walking in the front door with cash, I’m sure they appreciate you outing them online.

If you mean by shipment, they only have sales tax obligations to states in which they have a physical presence. You on the other hand have a legal obligation to pay your state the “sales tax” under the use tax section of your state return.

After the Wayfair suit, physical nexus isn't required....they can have economic nexus if they do enough business in the state (sales volume minimums before the States say you have to collect). Most small shops don't do enough volume and/or fly under the radar of states they don't have a physical presence in. But you are correct, every state technically has a Use tax, but few have an enforcement mechanism for that. I know some states have it on their state tax return...where you report out of state purchases in which you didn't pay sales tax. That way it puts you on the hook for a fraudulent return if you don't report it as well

I might have to try guitar center when stuff sits.

We dont file state tax in Florida. I appreciate your efforts of making it look like I'm doing something unethical, however.

Don't get your "outing" comment, either. They're not doing anything unethical or illegal either. It's out of state business with companies that don't meet the volume threshold to collect sales tax.

Florida doesn’t have sales tax?

…edit…just looked it up and while they have no State Income tax the sales tax is 6%.

No state tax/state tax return.
That’s not sales tax though. They probably just calculated OTD to reflect the agreed price but sales tax was still calculated by them, even if it didn’t show on a receipt.

You are avoiding paying the tax due, here’s the form:

Exactly, so you are doing something unethical.
Oh, ok. So if a guitar you wanted was 10% off, and no sales tax, you'd buy it and jump right online and download tax forms to make sure the state gets a couple hundred bucks? Please.. There's probably many on here that wouldn't. You're making a mountain out of a molehill.
