Yeah, when I bust mine out at gigs, the Pantera fans and metal heads go nuts. Then I play Cheap Trick or AC/DC on it and folks get a little ornery. That's my only issue with the shape really. I dig it, but Dime really cemented it as a single-genre guitar. I don't care, I still play it for...
Bought my USA ML brand-new in '82. It was my first real guitar and it still blows away almost anything else I've tried over the years. Dimebag kinda' made it a metal guitar, but I knew I had to have one after seeing Elliot Easton from The Cars holding one in a magazine ad way before that. The...
Mark, do you, or any of you guys for that matter, know of a decent product for tilting 4x12 cabs? Apart from the Auralex BigTipper and some home-made offerings, I haven't had much luck finding anything. The Auralex deal seems like it's for smaller amps/cabs. Some stages or venues just don't have...
Yep, "Me and My Wine" and a remix of "Bringin' on the Heartbreak" with keyboards were added to one of the later releases of the album, but it doesn't look like they're included anymore.
DL's first 3 albums were the soundtrack of my teenage years. I remember sitting in my room trying to nail...
It might be a little too tight in the power amp section, but you might want to look into a used VHT/Fryette CL50 or 100. I have the 50 with graphic EQ and I can get a great approximation of EVH's earlier tones. Can switch from SS to tube rectifier to add a little bounce to the tone as well.
A...
Bray = David Bray - amp modder/builder
PPIMV = Post Phase Inverter Master Volume
Wife Knob = Gain Knob
Line out for wet/dry = don't worry about it :)
You're apt to get a thousand answers here. I've heard others mention the AFD being bright or too bright. Never tried one myself so I can't...
I'm not the greatest at putting tones into words, but I found some good info in the link below on how the BBQ sounds in different guitars. Lots of comparisons to a JB (most of which I agree with), but I have mine in a Les Paul, which is a completely different situation to yours. To me, it's got...
These don't seem to get talked about much anymore, but I totally agree. Completely forgot about the BBQ when I suggested Aldrich. Fat is one of the first words that comes to mind and it's a killer sounding pickup.
Suhr Aldrich maybe? I wanted something to fatten up my basswood / maple Suhr. Tried several other pickups before landing on that one and it quickly became one of my favorites. Have it in several guitars now. For a hotter pickup, it just seems to have the right balance of output and eq.
First, awesome job Mark, always dig your clips! That tone is so unique, kudos for getting as close as you did. Honestly though, I mostly tune in to covet that Lifeson Les Paul of yours.
Grand Illusion was one of the first LPs I bought with my own cash as a kid. Huge fan of that...
This thread has potential written all over it cause I know there have to be some epic stories out there. Let's hear em! Green teeth, no teeth, monkeys, bring it on!
Agreed. You don't wish nights like that on any band, but unfortunately they've been known to happen. :D
We played one cold, snowy Minnesota night years ago. One of those "stay in your home unless it's an absolute emergency" type of nights. The evening started with a small handful of patrons...
Thanks for the tips guys. Gonna pick up a 5751, AT7 and a CV4024 to try as well. Incredibly happy with the cheap JJ AU7, so if I can snag some decent NOS versions of the aforementioned, it might just open a hole in the space/time continuum.
For owners or players considering the EHV Stealth...
I threw a JJ 12AU7 in V1 recently just for kicks to see what it would do. In short, it's staying. If the blue channel on the original 5150 III doesn't have enough gain, and the Stealth has too much, this is the perfect middle ground IMHO. I...
Have used and gigged with 4x12 cabs my entire playing life. I grabbed the EVH 50w and two of the 2x12 cabs a while back and didn't care for the cabs at all. They were too boxy and raspy sounding for my tastes compared to any of my 4x12s. I'm not saying they're bad sounding cabs. I gave them a...
Sorry man, but every time I hear DLR call one of his tech crew a f-ing moron in the middle of a freaking show, he sure seems like a dick to me. I'm sure it's part of his shtick, but it's a dicky part of his shtick. :)
