Great points here. I'm not that familiar with Randy Castillo's work (although I am with Joey Castillo's with QOTSA, great stuff--but I digress). But a great hard rock drummer can really take a band to the next level, as you point out with Kerslake or Adler on AFD. Or the way that Tommy Aldridge...
Hey, I had one of those! Same as the white one, but with the rosewood board.
Funny thing is that I eventually took the the stock neck off and replaced it with a Jackson maple boarded strat neck that had someone had put a Charvel logo on. Made it look a little like an older San Dimas Charvel.
So true. That's how I was thinking of it. It's so easy to spend a lot of time chasing gear. It can sometimes take away the time that might be better spent playing, recording, creating.
Have to kind of agree. When I first discovered Uli I had already heard Blackmore and Malmsteen, and I really dug Uli's strat into Marshall rock spirit.
You know, they say that the tone is "in the hands." But you know what else is in the hands? The guitar.
+1 on the Dimarzio noiseless pickups. The Area 58s have a nice classic strat vibe. You might look into the Virtual Solo for the bridge. Classic sound but a bit hotter and takes distortion really well.
Great point here, given that this guy doesn't sound like one of the tube amp tone chasers that many of us seem to be.
This is actually an interesting thread. Here's a guy who has been happy with his amp and content to stay with it. How rare is that?
Cool tune. Takes me back to the melodic Euro-metal of the early 80s that I cut my teeth on.
I've found that dialing back the gain/saturation on rhythm tones helps them cut better in a mix. For some reason, I always find that the recorded overdriven amp sounds sound somewhat more distorted than...
Sounds good man. Mix is well done as well. Curious as to how you did the drums and your guitar rig. And what is that guitar? I don't recognize it. And the tuning machines look interesting.
Thanks for sharing.
Just took the subject heading straight from the YouTube post.

I don't know if this is a newer version of the instrumental track, but it sounds fuller and more detailed than the other instrumental version I've heard. This...
