    Mayones Regius 6. Thoughts?

I'm a sucker for beautiful wood and top-notch construction and materials. That's what first spoke to me about Mayones. I knew by reputation they were well made (like you, I wasn't able to play one before I purchased), and I could get a top and a color that, if I got, say, a PRS, would put me...

    Mayones Regius 6. Thoughts?

I have multiple PRS guitars and one Regius 6. They're all extremely well made. These days, the Mayo tends to fit me better, but not because it's better; it's just different. And there are plenty of times when the PRSi call me back. I currently own 15 guitars, and in my life I've probably owned...

NCD!! Cant wait for the wife to get home?!?

Do you ever run through a traditional guitar cab or do you stick with FRFR speakers? Like you, I power an AXE-FX II with a Matrix amp, but I play through a 4x12 recto cab. I've heard mixed feedback about running the Kemper through a traditional cab, but I've always been curious!

Friedman Brown Eye vs Double J - BE Channels

The JJ seems to be slightly louder in the mix, which could account for the perceived difference in tone. Both sound great!

    New Suhr and Tom Anderson

My original purple Suhr! Wish it had been the right color, as it plays great and that quilt is super epic. Enjoy!

    Chris Broderick Jackson Sig

I currently own three, all 6-string USA models. Love them. Neck is on the strat/charvel spectrum - shred-y, but rounder and not super flat like an Ibanez Wizard. They are very heavy guitars. All three of mine are 9lbs+. They're extremely well balanced, though, so the weight - to me - is far...

    Received my Washburn Parallaxe today.

Sounds like you may have received a guitar that someone else tried and returned, which would explain the swirl marks and odd tuning (for a brand new retail guitar). Good luck with the replacement.

    Tonewoods myth

But when amplified, all guitars do sound very similar. Generally speaking, on recordings, strats sound like strats, LPs sound like LPs, teles like teles. Take 10 identical teles straight off Fender's line, plug them in and have all of us play them, and we'd probably say that some were better...

    Tonewoods myth

Sorry, I missed tripstan's post. It sounds like we agree (although we may differ on the degree) that wood may play a larger role in feel and acoustic sound than it does amplified sound. My favorite guitars all feel and sound great unamplified, and I definitely value acoustic sound when choosing...

    Tonewoods myth

I also have two Suhr moderns - one basswood and one alder. Even when they shared most of the same make/model hardware, they always felt and sounded very different when amplified, so I know exactly what you're describing. Remember, I still haven't been convinced that wood doesn't matter. Far from...

    Tonewoods myth

Well, regardless of whether or not the conclusions drawn by the videos I linked to earlier are correct (and remember, I'm not saying they are, I'm merely saying the results are interesting and lead me to question some of my beliefs), here are some pretty logical reasons why every guitar with the...

    Tonewoods myth

How do you know wood matters? Can you prove it, or is it just something you know in your bones to be true? How do you refute what seem to be reasonably well-conceived and executed tests that suggest wood does not impact tone, at least not to the extent most of us believe?

    Tonewoods myth

I have been playing for over 20 years and I've owned more guitars than I'd care to admit (to my wife). In my youth, I even sold guitars "professionally" at retail. And I have always, ALWAYS believed that wood matters. I mean, how couldn't it? Different guitars, even with the same pickups...

Suhr Modern Body Wood - Basswood or Mahogany?

I have played both and own a basswood-body Suhr Modern. Basswood is typically a much lighter wood than mahogany, so a maple-neck basswood-body guitar will usually be a pound or two lighter than a mahogany-neck mahogany-body guitar. That's probably the biggest objective difference. But even then...

    Refret in San Francisco?

You want to go to Gary Brawer's shop in SF. He's an institution. Has two plek machines, regularly works on pro gear for guys like Metallica, Satriani, Shon, etc. Only real downside is that you may have to deal with long wait times because his shop is so busy.

Why The World Needs Mark Day (to update his Axe II patches)

I don't just love those patches, I'm in love with those patches. ;-) I can stick with the previous firmware in order to use them, but Axe Edit only works with the new firmware, and I need that, so I figured I'd make a public spectacle of myself in the name of getting "my" tone back. Nothing...

Why The World Needs Mark Day (to update his Axe II patches)

In 2010, I purchased a new AxeFX Ultra because of Mark Day's videos, and my favorite patches were slight variations on the ones he'd created and posted to AxeChange. In early 2013, I purchased a new AxeFX II because of Mark Day's videos, and again, all of my favorite patches were slight...
