Blacked out my ESP Eclipse I

That looks way better than the way I imagined it would look! Nicely done! I'm terribly OCD about my gear, so for the guitars I have EMGs in, I did a little mod work and put gold covers on my set of ZW EMGs. The most difficult part was making the pole piece screws out of normal pole pieces...

    Gibson LPC Pickups ???

I used to hate these pickups, but after swapping out the pots for 500Ks, and switching to PIO caps, I really love the way the 57 Classics sound in a LPC. They have a really cool "grit" when using high gain, and clean they sound nice and chimey.

What's your take on Heritage guitars?

Supposedly built by Gibson's old Kalamazoo Crew. I've heard good things about them, but I've never played one. Never really been interested in them either. Their QC can't be any worse than modern Gibson's.

    Need some LP guidance.

LP Studio in Natural? It kinda reminds me of the raw power LPs that Gibson made for a while. What year was this one made? I have it's big brother in Natural...

What preamp tubes do you recommend for a Mesa.....

I have a mix of the square getter 12AX7s and other Chinese, Mesa-Branded 12AX7s, along with some Sovteks, but I never really cared for the JJs, so I use them as spares... As for the Power Tubes, if you can find some STR-415s/420s, those are the best, IMO, but I've always liked the sound of my...

Do EMG active pickups really suck?

EMG pickups do not suck. They're the best choice if you need something really tight that can track fast when you're playing fast Rhythm riffs. I started getting bored of the stock 81/85 tone, so I installed a switchable 18v mod, which sounds much more open, and feels like it actually...

It's Time for a Mesa Mark...III or IV

I love both my Mark III and Mark IV, but if the best tone is what you're after, your option is the Mark III. Yes, the IV sounds awesome. Yes, it can get close to a C+, but the Mark III is clearer, more responsive, and has a rawness to it that makes it feel as if a blanket has been lifted off of...

    -high gain German gas-

For raw, I always tend to lean towards the Mark series. If you can find a Mark III, these are the definition of raw, so much so that if you play one, it'll make you a better player because of how raw, in your face, and unforgiving they are. Yes, they have three channels, but depending on the...

    Question about Explorer Value?

I would call around and see what shops will quote to dowel-in the holes, and as far as the name carved into the back (I think the owner carved "andersons" or something into the lower bout), I have seen some miraculous restorations, but you'd most likely be looking at a relaxing in order to make...

buying guitars that you've never played _online

I've bought nearly all of my guitars except for three of them in person. Two out of the three were great, so that my experience online. I will say that in all of the guitars I've owned, one of the guitars that I've had the longest was my Ibanez RG. I received a MIM Fender Strat from my parents...

Wah pedals. The good, the bad and the ugly!!!

I love my Rotovibe. I looked for years to find one, no joke, and I finally found one locally a few years back! It's more subtle than most chorus/tremolo pedals, but the knob on the side controls the effect volume. The Rotovibe has two small mini pots on the inside that control the overall effect...

Wah pedals. The good, the bad and the ugly!!!

Hey man, sorry form of responding sooner! I didn't know his thread was this active! The cost of materials is pretty low. I found a lot of stuff at the local Radio Shack, and just went to town! I'd bet that the shipping cost is more than the cost of materials! I'd be happy to hook a brother up as...

    Tell me about the 6505+

My brother has one and it's more on the fizzy side, and the bass knob can get really out of control really quickly. Otherwise, it's a decent little amp at a cheap price.

In Aust. Should I send my MKIII to Mesa for the MKIIIC+ mod?

The Mark III Blue Stripe is my absolute favorite, even compared to my Mark III+. Both are Coliseums. Both are fully loaded. Both are long heads. Yes, the Mark III+ does get a lot smoother and the bass get fattened up, but compared to a Super-Pissed Off-Agressive Blue Stripe, you'll miss some of...

    Kiesel's customer service sucks!

What in the actual phuck is up with that neck? I can't recall ever seeing a guitar that had a rake towards the front and away from the back?!? That's crazy...and backwards! Sorry to hear about your experiences with Kiesel. It seems like a good 95% of the year i buy comes from American...

    Anybody see Yngwie live lately?

I inadvertently saw LA Guns at a small local bar (that used to be a strip club) in Tempe a few years back (2013-ish). My ex-girlfriend was bartending on her first night, and she invitied me up for moral support. I went up there and saw them but wasn't too impressed.

    I have a decision to make. C -> C+ or C++?

I tried to look for some decent clips of the + vs. ++, but I couldn't find anything that really highlighted the differences between the amps. As for where the 180W fits in the list, I'd put it at the very front! The power transformers that were used on the C+ Coliseums is the same power...

    NAD: Mesa MkIII

Welcome to the club! They're amazing amps for sure. Definitely worth their "giant killer" nickname for sure! I've currently got 3 Mark IIIs and 5 Mark series amps in my stable, and I can't seem to let any of them go. Out of all the stripes, the Blue Stripes are the most aggressive (and can be...
