I have a horror story about GC’s shipping too!
I ordered a Mesa/Boogie amp a few years ago from one of their New York locations. They removed the power tubes, but they placed the tubes UNDERNEATH the amp! I figured “maybe the tubes josteled around in transit”. Nope. They placed a single piece...
Mike....your signature line.....
As for the clips...
1. The Uberschall seemed much less saturated than the Mesa and the Wiz
2. The Wiz sounded clearer than the Mesa
Most of the deals I’ve made have been for cash, so I haven’t had to worry about any value/price ratio. While I haven’t run across this scenario selling personally, I initially was on the “your-list-price-is-your-value” side of the fence. But that doesn’t account for the seller that relisted his...
I respectfully disagree with this assessment. You can run a Revision D slightly higher and get it to sound identical to a C, so that is true. But all revisions above Rev. D are voiced differently and utilize some different components that would be a more of a decisive “line in the sand”, and no...
Nice score man! Welcome back to the Pre-500 Club.
Yeah, I’ve always said that I’m pretty sure the Rect Rev. Cs and Ds behave/respond so similar to the Mark Series Amos was because they were built with whatever remaining Mark III Trannys Mesa had left over, until they ran out, which was at the...
I may be in the minority, but I miss the old HCAF. It seemed like the vast majority of forumites from HCAF had the same sense of humor, and I REALLY miss the funny pics thread. That tread was one of the best threads on the web!
But, as with everything that’s fun, it came to an end. For every...
After watching the video, I noticed a couple Explorers set up in the studio. I’m not an expert on all things ‘Adam Jones’, but I’ve never heard of any accounts that he used any Explorers on record before. I personally love recording tones using an Explorer (fast and aggressive) along with a...
I have the new DFs in a pair of Explorers I bought, and I like them. I absolutely expected to hate them based on what I read online, but I haven’t felt the need to replace them. They can be a little shrill depending on your settings, but they work great for what I play.
I’d second this...or a pair of dirty fingers if you can find them. EMGs are great at what they do, but you can find more dynamic pickups out there. Personally, I have two sets installed in two of my LPCs, but the other two have passives (one has a set of 57 Classics, the other has the JB/59 setup).
Cool idea, but because it’s aluminum, it can’t be Parkerized, but it can be anodized. Anodizing should only cost no more than $60, and it durable. Just check out any AR-15/M16/M4 lower.
It depends on the Revision, but the early Rectos have a matte finish (like my Rev. D), and the later 2-channel Rectos have a more glossy, plastic-like finish. I believed they made the change during Revision G.
Cool video man! Thanks for bringing it to light! I love their strings, but for some reason, even though heir guitars are quality (at least the dozens I’ve played and seen), I could never really get into them.
Would have like to see Chapper’s trans black ash/mahogany Armada in the video.
Thanks man! Yeah, I tried the PIO caps with the EMGs, but I didn’t notice much difference tonally, but the taper of the pots actually works a little better, where when you turn your volume knob from 1 to 4 it gradually increases the volume, whereas the normal EMG kit seemed to go from 1 to fully...
Anytime man!
I actually tried the long shaft pots FIRST, and I tried shimming them so that they sat at the forefront depth, but they felt too wobbly, even with a nut and washer on both ends, so I made a whole new electronics package with the two remaining pots (the alphas in this pic), and used...
