For recording monitors I love my KRK VXT6s.

Altos are fantastic for onstage monitoring or rehearsal. I use the TS110a's and they are a perfect combination of size, power, and cheapness. ;)

I had an axe standard, the effects are world class, the amp tones aren't that great. If you just need your amp tone, the Torpedo is a great solution. If you want a modelling amp, I'd go with an Eleven rack or even a Pod HD before I'd do the axe standard.

I talked to Bill Sundt when I got my SLO - I wanted to upgrade the power tubes in it, he said the Sovtek 5881s were fine in the amp and if I wanted to change the tonality, go with speakers/cabs before anything else.
