i definitely thought about the 5150 III heads. being a marshall guy and EVH tone fan, it was one of my first choices. but i have the modded marshall thing done a bunch already. of course the 5150 III is a whole lot better sounding than most, but i haven't actually heard or played one in...

i've played on so little real pro gear that i don't know what is "must have" gear. i know many guys here know tone and gear, so i am respectfully looking for advice.

a friend of mine has been trying to get me to buy either a mesa triaxis or studio preamp for like 20 years now. i have never played through anything mesa.....i know, where have i been? anybody have thoughts on those preamps? i can get a studio preamp for around $500-600, the triaxis still...

i'm still liking the Blackstar HT-5 for hot rod marshall tones on the cheap. and i'm waiting for the Randall Diavlo to come out so i can get one of those too.

dragonfire pickups in an ibanez rgt42 neck through mahogany guitar.....terrible! same guitar with dimarzio D'Activators is heaven. some pickups just don't play well with certain types of wood.

is it my imagination or did the guy butcher an ibanez guitar to make that turd?

Dimarzio tech support says go with D Activators.... so i did. they said that if i didn't like them i could trade them in for whatever i wanted. so i will try them out and if they don't sound right.....out they go.

prolly dumb, but i put heavy strings on my Ibanez RGT42FM and tuned down to Bb. the humbuckers that i have on there just suck for Djent. i need some suggestions. i was thinking either Dimarzio Crunchlab/Liqufire or Duncan Gus G set or even Duncan custom....i would even consider Dimarzio...

i've owned manny different rack preamps over the years, so i'll unload my thoughts on some of the cheaper ones here: rocktron progap v2 - first real preamp (back in 1989). did decent marshall and boogie tone. fairly easy to dial in. quiet as death. tubeworks realtube - didn't like it. too...

damn, i hope the guys that told me to wait are right. i had the amp in my shopping cart and was ready to take the plunge. i'm actually interested in the 20 watt version now.

another vote for eleven rack.

also, the RD50H is now a RD45H....but like i said, the current line of RD50H's should have the Fortin hang tag on them if they were modded (which most of them should have been).
