I’d be real tempted to sell those mini heads and get a single larger model like the small box or be100. Larger power section and transformer can really help with the perceived tightness and response you may be trying to get from a pedal. Just a thought.
XTC 101B is different enough from a Marshall and a “must own” to give a shot if you never have. Uberschall is wicked as well, but I’ve never played the ultra model.
I don’t know about a bust, but I’m not buying a 20w EL84 amp sight unseen. I haven’t found one of these near me yet to try. I’m afraid it won’t have enough ass…
If it was 2x EL34 in a 30-50w amp they would have been better off. Just my opinion though.
It’s not that big of a difference in my opinion. The mod adds a bit more gain and compression to the red channel. It’s a simple one to have done or do yourself. It’s a 10K resistor in series with a 1uF poly cap across the stock 10K cathode resistor (R12) on the red channel.
The Fillmore is great as well. I played a cali tweed and a Fillmore 50 and left with the Fillmore.
I wish someone was doing a mod to Fillmore to put some more low end in the gain channel. The clean is a spectacular mix of blackface and tweed though. That channel is worth the amp price alone.
Green channel - dime channel volume and use the gain as a volume, mid at 1000 the rest to taste and it’s basically a super reverb.
Blue - just dime the gain and do whatever else you want. I like L excursion, B1, boost on, B5 M7 T6 P8.
Red - Keep the gain low and boost it. I like excursion T...
Bogner uses crazy pots too. A treble on 6 on an xtc is like a 3 or something on a Marshall. You just have to turn the knobs in a way your not used to, but the aggression and tightness is there if you want it.
A standard early 2000s 101B model ecstasy can be a kickass metal amp. Most people dial them in smooth and fat for leads, but that’s not all it can do.
Red channel, excursion tight, bright 1, gain on 6, treble control at like 7/8 and you’re there. It takes boosts really well if you think you...
The st rock react ir II has 2 separate curves with a hardware button on the face. Both good, ones is brighter and the other is warmer. They bith work in reactive mode.
I saw a 5150 and 6505 both in a secondhand store here in Japan this week for 400-500 bucks each… honestly not something I need with an uber. Almost bit though because the price was good.
