I think that V30s sound great when you're playing un-mic'd, with a full band. By themselves, they can get annoying. But when a heavy-hitting drummer and aggressive bass player kick in, the V30s shine.
polytune / koko / BOSS Super Chorus / ISP decimator and an Ibanez DE-7 sitting
The Polytune itself is true bypass and doesn't suck tone. What *could* suck tone is 20' of cable to your board, and 20' back to an amp. that's a long cable run, if you didn't have a buffer. but... Your Boss CH1 has...
RC Boost is great. Very clean. It has the ability to add grit, but it's very transparent. Active EQ too. For me it sounded great before AND after dirt boxes, either pushing the front end for more gain, or after adding a volume bump and slight compression/bigness for solos.
For straight up...
1. Just fully realize that there's exactly one bazillion dudes in LA alone that have the same exact "plan" (or dream) that you have.
2. The internet doesn't need any more videos of people covering EVH songs on guitar. Be yourself. Write some original riffs and solos that show diversity in...
The biggest Q you have to ask yourself is: do you need a blend knob or not.
If you do, Barber Tone Press or Wampler Ego. Me personally, I need one. And once you get used to having it, playing a comp without one seems very limiting - no pun intended.
If you don't, then there's a bazillion...
I've played an N4, and i know what you're talking about when you say "flat".
The N4 shape is like a D shaped back. Most of Warmoths offerings are C shaped.
I will say that for a middle of the road, beefy but not baseball bat, the 59 Roundback is very comfortable.
Dude, $400 for that is a NO brainer - great deal!!! There really is nothing like a LP Jr. Nothing to hide behind. Just pure rock and roll.
1. Those faded models DO buff out relatively nicely to a semi-glossy finish, if you choose to do that. I did that to my 05 Faded LP DC. Looked really...
Yeah, your descriptions are pretty much spot on.
I own a bunch of Les Pauls, and also own a really nice 2001 Gibson ES335 - one of the last ones made in the Nashville Factory.
ES335 sounds a little more extreme, tone wise. Meaning, the neck is woolier, and the bridge is brighter and more...
It's funny you mention that Mike... That's the exact reason that I *can't * use the Gators, or the Ultex's for that matter. The bevel, for me, is too sharp.
I like a fatter, plain ol' rounded edge.
But you're right - the bevel on a pick really does affect the feel.
SteveZ above actually has a *Retro*30 custom 100W - I know because I'm the one that sold it to him! haha.
The Veteran30's are great speakers, but like AdamBomb said, just a different EQ curve.
The Retro30's are much closer to an actual V30 Celestion.
I have very, VERY limited knowledge on this, but here's my assumption:
The wheat grill cloth was some NOS overstock, and Reinhold bought ALL of it. Lasted about a decade, and then they ran out.
