Finally got one - CAA 3+ SE preamp

Don't take this the wrong way, but both of these examples sound like something you could EASILY get out of a Boss or Digitech floor pedal.

Choose your worst 80's album/amp tone.

I defended Operation Mindcrime above, but someone mentioned the lead tones and I'll agree with that - weak link there for sure; way too fizzy! I've NEVER heard an Iron Maiden album with a tone I like, studio or live; it's just not heavy enough for a "heavy metal" band, too muddy, no definition...

    Choose your 1 80's album/amp tone.

I know EXACTLY what you mean! There's a similar one in Sinner's Swing at the "Soon you'll see my silouette...." breakdown bit at about 2.09 which I think is probably the best chord ever recorded haha!

Choose your worst 80's album/amp tone.

I think the production of that album was very divisive at the time? I like it, it's "modern" and cold which matches the story well and I'm sure was intentional. Sounds great cranked in a car I think! Someone mentioned they liked Ozzy's "No Rest..." in the "Best 80's tone" thread and I couldn't...

    Steve Vai - Modern Primitive

Very interesting album! Not a fan of his singing at all though, the track with Devin on it is brilliant.

Also, great tone as well I should add

Vai's Eat 'Em and Smile tone was pretty tasty.

    Shawn Lane appreciation thread.

That Little Wing clip was awesome, the guy on the blue Strat played some fairly tasty stuff too! Exemplifies why Lane was SO good - even when he played fast it still sounds great and not like Michael Angelo, for example, just playing mechanically. For me, he's one of the absolute greats. The...

    Def Leppard

That's always been their kinda thing though, so no surprise there. I saw them a few years ago with Whitesnake opening and they blew them off stage for me. Whitesnake were good, but Leppard are the best example of a band making music FOR huge shows and you can definitely tell the difference.

    EVH's Roth-era live setup?

It's just something that I've been wondering about - basically how Ed replicated his no.1 Marshall sound in a live setting. I suppose if his no.1 was stock but variac'd, or with different transformers it wouldn't be too hard to do that with the live amps?

    EVH's Roth-era live setup?

Saw some pics of Eddie's fav Marshall and wall of Marshalls in loads of other pics etc... from back in the day, but I was wondering if anyone knows what the setup with the amps was? I suppose he wouldn't have taken his fav on the road so would every amp be variac'd live? Was the wall of cabs a...

    Scorpions - Can't Explain

Wow, that was AWFUL haha! The Scorpions one wasn't much better. 80's rock is my favourite genre, but when they cover older rock songs it just never works for me. Lynch Mob's "Tie Your Mother Down" is another horrible example.

    Best Pedal Tuners?

Got the Polytune 2 black version and it's the best pedal tuner I've owned. Set it to strobe mode and it's accurate to 1 cent, rather than 5 in the regualr mode. Noticed someone saying that the poly mode didn't seem accurate for them, but I find I just use it live inbetween songs for a quick...

    Generation Axe vids from Vegas!

You could literally loop Yngwie's openings for his shows and that'd be his set covered basically :D

Is this the best sounding inst. gtr record of all time?

Not a massive Satch fan, but checked this out because of this post and I must say the production is superb. The guitar tone on Crazy Joey is absolutely brilliant. The best-produced instrumental album is still Passion and Warfare in my book.

How DOES neck/body wood impact on the tone of a guitar?

Can't really work it out, or am i being stupid? If the string vibration is getting amplified through the pickups through a magnet how is the tone of the body/neck wood contributing to that? Is the pickup "hearing" the tone of the woods? Thanks, just thought I'd ask! Mike
