I’d consider changing strings more often pal. I only play about 30 mins a day nowadays and I’d say I change strings every 2 months at most. If you’re on stage and sweating and playing for an hour inc practicing mid week, those strings are taking a beating.
Been using them almost exclusively for several years now. I tried the NYXL for a few sets and went back to the Elixirs. Not sure what all the hype is about.
They last & they sound great. I've not broken one either, touch wood.
I used to use all 4 channels of the VH4 in my band setup, but I think I spent most of my time with Ch1 & Ch2 at home. I felt these two channels were more versatile & certainly Ch2 (compared to 3 & 4) was more balanced. Ch2 took overdrives amazingly well. I played 3 & 4 less & less over time...
Played in drop D tuning back in the band days. We tuned down a semi tone too.
I pretty much exclusively play in standard tuning now, with 10s.
But I also don't play any metal & play a telecaster.
Check out Sylosis if you haven't. I've not really heard another band do modern day thrash the same justice. Chris Adler even took them on LOG's US tour.
Also check out their guitar player (now playing in Architects) if you want to see how high the bar has been set for metal rhythm guitar playing.
My Custom 24 surprised me negatively. A heavy, expensive guitar with crap electronics that didn't really have any unique tonal characteristics at all. I'd consider a DGT but otherwise I won't be buying another PRS again. They look nice though.
I switched my TS9 out for a Shiba Drive recently. I found a half price deal on a new Kiko Reloaded version. It sounds better than all the Tubescreamer type pedals ive owned in the past. Really want a koko boost too but haven't found one pop up for the right price yet.
Had to sell my VH4 & Cab when I bought my apartment. Have two daughters also.
Can't even push the master on my 30W combo past 8 'o' clock during the day without the neighbors hearing.
Was thinking about buying one of the Katana lunchbox amps to play after the girls have gone to bed.
I'd say an overdrive with a mid-boost is probably better than your average TS pedal for that kind of amp. A Koko boost or something.
I'm similarly confused by the question though, no disrespect. That is a serious amplifier to own and not know how it's voiced. You can probably afford to have...
I never got to max out the master volume on my VH4. I once cranked it up to about 1 o clock and was immediately reprimanded by my band mates.
On stage I don't think I ever cranked it past 11 o clock.
Sorry to derail, but anyone here tried one of the new Ibanez AZ Prestige? I played one of the premium versions in a shop recently and it played a felt great.
