Read back through the thread. This has been mainly about issues with the Regius model.
I owned a Regius & talk from experience. It came stock with BKs.
I'd say if you have to buy a lower fidelity pickup to give the guitar the character it doesn't otherwise have, then that's quite a revealing fault of the guitar.

My experience also. As a player who doesn't spend any time recording in the studio anymore & just wants to pickup the guitar & jam, a simple tube amp & modest pedal board is everything I need. I find that whole setup more inspiring.
I had the Aldrich set in the Suhr modern I owned. Pretty high output pickups, but the neck pickup sounded really great, especially for cleans. Just a really percussive & musical pickup. Dare I say it, 'woody'.
