I preferred the KT77 in my VH4. I think they're a lot warmer than the EL34. I found the EL34 a bit harsh by comparison.

VH4 Channel 2 was my favorite channel on the amp. Took overdrives really well. Just really balanced and with loads of clarity across the strings. I used CH3 & 4 less & less over time.

Sounds like the Koko might be accentuating some of the faults with the pickup if the sound improves when you turn the koko off. Does the EVH have bridge & neck pickups? Same deal with both?

I ran an Ultra into a GT800FX & Orange cab. Used the poweramp simulation on the AxeFX. Tonnes of headroom in the poweramp. No complaints. Sounded killer.
