Orange Modern vs Red Modern on Rectifiers, is there a difference ?

On the older 2 channel recto's, the entire negative feedback arrangement is different between orange and red. I believe red has no negative feedback at all, and red "presence" is simply a high cut filter after the tone stack. Orange has normal nfb / presence arrangement. Orange cloned to modern...

    BE100 Deluxe vs Butterslax...your thoughts?

Yeah, main difference would be the "clean" channel. With the SAT, response and thump controls on the Deluxe, you should be able to get very close to the Slax channel 2 and 3 tones.

EVH vs PRS vs Marshall mini heads.... Cage Match

I haven't paid much attention to this segment of the amp market, so I have not heard any of these amps in person. But.... The MT-15 sounds really good here. The Marshall surprised me, as I expected it to sound like crap, but it sounds pretty decent in this video. The evh was meh at best to my...

    Drop B+ and Idle Bias

You need to know what the plate voltage is. But, for example, if the lower b+ was 430v, 40ma would be right around 70%. If the plate voltage is lower than 430v, than plate dissipation will be lower as well. This is for 25w el34's. So basically, as long as plate voltage is less than 430v...

    Bogner Bias for XTC 101B

Regarding the bias: I seem to recall sending an email to Bogner hq about this when I got my first 101b and saw what the plate voltage was. Pretty sure they told me 28ma. Given the 525v-540v on the plates, I would recommend as cold as you can get without killing the tone. I think these amps sound...

Hetfield, "the Ride the Lightning amp was a...

Just a reminder that you can cop a multi-band compression thing with an analog comp on the guitar bus by inserting a 31 band graphic eq in the side chain, and boost the frequencies you want to reel in, and cutting everything else. You can sculpt the tone by compresing your selected frequencies...

Simple mods to a 2203 - Metallica RTL

Yes, It changes the way the first stage is loaded. It's not exactly like changing the value of the pot because of the voltage divider formed by the 470k and the 220k preceding the pot. It also leaves intact the relationship between the 1n bright cap and the 1M pot values. But it certainly...

    Passive vs Buffered

I didn't think his buffered loop was very good at all. Noisy with tone suckage. But... FX loops and pedal boards and signal paths are complicated things... I think Bogner's loops suck too, so what the hell do I know  The Friedman and Metro loops sound the most transparent to me. The...

Buffered splitter vs Splitter with ISO?

Yeah, ideally you want the second output on an amp splitter / switcher to be a transformer isolated out. Prevents ground loops for sure, but the transformer isolation can also provide a margin of electrical safety when working with vintage amps. Connect the sketchy old amp to the iso output...

    Passive vs Buffered

Then you don't want either loop. The Ceriatone "passive" loop is just an insert loop between the treble pot and Master Vol, and his buffered loop sucks donkey balls. Order the amp without a loop, and put in a Metro loop after the fact. And ask Nik not to drill the chassis for the loop, or make...

Dream Realized - Bogner Ecstasy 3534

If you buy a 101b and don't dig the Red channel, look into the "Marvel" mod. But I would suggest you use .680uf cap // with 10k vs the 1 uf cap for the "Cameron" side. I found using .680uf cap // 10k gave the Red channel a tonality closer to Blue, but also seemed less congested and compressed...

Tiny Little 60 Tube Head - 1- 12ax7 Pre and 2x 6L6 Power tubes - 1 Bottle fine, one burning bright red? Smelled like it was burning????

Yup, I'd replace the tubes, but you'll have to check the bias. Even if it's cathode biased, you should still check where its at. Also check the screen grid resistors, and replace if defective.

    New Wolfie VH video

That's fukking great! If we ever get live music again, I would love to see him put a bad together and tour. Wonder if he'd play guitar or bass in a touring band? Edit: just went to the mammoth website, and it looks like he has a band, and performed on Kimmel.

Just bought a 2016 BE-100...How is it different than the others?

Probably darker and smoother than the newer ones. Filtering is different too, but that's where the magic is :D Personally, I think this is the best version, but you HAVE to move the NFB connection from the speaker jack to the 4 ohm tap. Don't sweat the Synergy vs Mallory cap thing, and the...

    Marshall Cabs Farting Out

Yup, I'm thinking its the speakers as well. Take the 2 v30's and 2 greenbacks out of the Helios cab and try 'em in the Marshall cabs, and you'll know for sure.

Collection of all kind of Diezel modifications

Cool  I hope you like the change. Try it out before you put the amp back in the head shell. If it doesn't work for you, then 2 minutes to put it back and it's all good ? And make sure you get those channel volumes up and control the amp with the master vol's.

Collection of all kind of Diezel modifications

If you move the NFB wire from the 8 ohm tap to the 4 ohm tap, what is physically changing is you are sending LESS negative feedback signal back to the phase inverter. The result is less damping of the PI output ( less compressed ) and more harmonic distortion (perceived as more brightness). This...

Collection of all kind of Diezel modifications

Yeah, less compressed and a bit brighter overall. I should also mention that running the channel vols at noon or higher makes a difference as well. Try setting channel 3 volume @ 1 o'clock, get your desired output level going with the Master volume, and then go back and balance the other...
