    To xtc20th owners HELP!!!

C'mon RG955TT, have You ever seen the guts of 20th Ann? or 101B? The guy has been robbed with regular 101B with faceplate and price of 20th Ann. I have 101B and gut shots of 20th Ann. The guitarxtc's amp is 101B, no doubt about that.

    To xtc20th owners HELP!!!

C2 is cathode bypass cap in Structure circuit, so in 2nd dirty gain stage. In early 101B's it was small electrolytic 2.2uF cap, then it was lowered to 1.5uF and the cap was changed to tantalum. Less uF's in cathode bypass = less gain boost and less bass (simplifying things of course) Looks...

    To xtc20th owners HELP!!!

470pF cap across R17 is a treble peaker before 4th dirty gain stage. That cap was occuring on some XTC schems floating around, regarded as a mistake. None of the 101B's I've seen hadn't have it, but it is possible that it was present in some early 101B units. It's not necessarily bad thing to...

Bogner xtc 101b Marvel mod capacitor material suggestions

If so, something might have gone wrong, possibly with the wiring. Post2004 Factory mod gives noticeably brighter and more saturated tone. It also gives lots of compression. You should hear the difference. Try .68uF cap instead of 1uF. It gives less bottom, so tighter sound, so an impression of...

Bogner xtc 101b Marvel mod capacitor material suggestions

They should be soldered in series with the mods, but I don't use additional resistors, as the amp isn't popping dramatically when switching mods. And also because actually I don't switch it :). I use tweaked Cameron only. Regards, Andy :)

Bogner xtc 101b Marvel mod capacitor material suggestions

Off position of a switch allows You to keep Your pre2004 setting. Both on positions enable particular mods. To wire a mod, solder in series 2.7K + 0.22uF for Factory mod and in series 10K + 1uF for Cameron Mod, then solder them to the left and right lugs od a switch. Link other sides of the...

Bogner xtc 101b Marvel mod capacitor material suggestions

To do a mod You don't need a cap with that high voltage parameters. Even 25V cap will do. Use 63V or 100V cap max. I'd advise You to use polyester cap, film-to-foil being the best, but every metal film polyester cap will do fine. Avoid polypro caps, as they tend to be harsh in highs. For...

Anyone got any good Pre-Amp Tube suggestions?

I have tried many NOS tubes in my XTC, although I ended up with CP tubes in preamp (RFT/Siemens EL34's in poweramp). I had a great results with: - Telefunken smooth plates in PI - great tube, very clean and pronounced - Tesla E83CC goldpins as input V1 tube (not so distorted but very textured) -...

Anyone got any good Pre-Amp Tube suggestions?

My current setup (in 101B obviously) is LPS in V1, V5-V6 and chinese in V2-V4. I used to use EHX's in V2-V3 which give more creamy saturation and Tung-Sol's RI, which give darker sound, but still nice and worth considering. LPS in V1 and V5 (input tube and PI) gives nice clean kick to the...

XTC: Whoosing white noise on Red Channel

Well, it might be the tube, but note that Red channel is hissing quite much itself. Is Your amp Pre or Post2004? If Post, additional R12 mod make the Red hissing more too. The dedicated triode for a Red is V2B so You might try the other tube in V2 if You want to check it. Regards, Andy :)

    "Bogner blanket"

The blanket effect actually concerns XTC only. I played Shiva and Uberschall and these are totally different amps, tuned in other freqs, so no blanket there definitely. Today on a rehersals I switched on C40 cap. And although having linear Treble pot, 22nF PI output caps and modified preamp, I...

    Who owns a Marshall???

I own 6100, but for sentimental reasons :). If I'd buy a Marshall now that would definitely be JVM410H. Based on JCM800, great sounding amp. You may achieve many classic tones using it, and more :). With a few mods done (which can be obtained on JVM forum) it is a perfect stage machine. A friend...

    "Bogner blanket"

Well, it definitely could be louder but it is simply 101B nature - it is noticeably darker, as that was Renholdt's idea. No one expects it to be a fizzy Marshall. But it definitely isn't cutting in that video (all 3 times it is least pronounced) and I'm afraid that it isn't a matter of volume...

    "Bogner blanket"

IMO everything depends on the band context, music style, etc. I know many people who are happy with the 101B's tone as it is. I also like dark nature of XTC in general, but in my band the stock amp was ineffective :/. Fortunately now it is even too effective :), while still retaining Bogner...

    "Bogner blanket"

That was funny, because before modding my bandmates still kept forcing me to lower my volume (having set Treble and Presence slightly beyond the point where it made the amp sounding fizzy and harsh-sizzling), but when I've done that they kept talking "we can't hear Ya!!". So I was increasing the...
