yea! I had the suhr guys switch my tuners to locking ones (from vintage style tuners) right before these gigs, and that made a difference too. Those Suhr classics with 510's really hold tuning.
It's a crime more people don't know about him, really. The world needs more great rock music, from guys like Ian! So i'm happy to spread the word however I can.
He used a board the Suhr guys provided- really he just walked up and dialed stuff on the fly, it was a lesson in just making it work, for me to watch him play like that on an unfamiliar rig! Not an easy thing to do! The board had Suhr Shiba, Koji, and Rufus pedals as well as an Empress delay I...
Ha, hey I'm just telling you what Scott Henderson said! Sonny is insane, ridiculous slide playing, no doubt. But Ian is incredible too. The vid of the song we played will be up soon, you'll see what Scott saw.
The vibe is great amongst musicians, it's all very supportive. Everyone's got something different to offer! Ian was watching Henderson with me, and tripping out, saying he'd been a fan way back when he was at Berklee. Then Scott was beside the stage when we played, and Ian closed with this...
You're not kidding- playing at that party, it's like, keep your head down and don't think about the fact that Scott Henderson, Ian, Andy Wood, etc etc are there, just play like it was any other gig, haha easier said than done.
I'm a big fan and have used the Musicom for ... 3 years now? I love it- no issues- and it's just a great piece of gear. You won't find another switcher this small that does so much!
Thanks guys, thanks for posting that vid of me gabbin, that does give a good idea of how ballsy it sounds in the room :) playing starts at about 4:50, for those that don't want to hear me blab, ha
Well I think it's a big factor. The higher filtering, the amp is tighter but stiffer too. It's a balance for sure. I'm pretty sure the whole Mod 5 thing is just a 800 type circuit but with plexi filtering( and a ppimv). So there ya go. Lower feels more "tactile". If that makes sense. But you can...
geez I dunno. Probably tuning the preamp a bit, just fine tuning bass in the front end and stuff. But i don't really know what John does, he just says "here, lemme try something" and then gets in there and changes stuff and then i play... it's like at the eye doctor when they flip those lenses...
I think the official word is there's too many differences for them to mod existing CAA amps to this spec. Boost, output transformer, all the tweaks, a depth instead of whomp circuit, filtering, midi... it's a lot of changes, keep in mind what was done to my amp was over years.
